The Mythological Provenance Of Isaiah 14:12-15: A Reconsideration Of The Ugaritic Material, Michael Heiser
Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary (1973-2015)
Many scholars of the Hebrew Bible have postulated that the source of the taunt-song of Isa xiv 12-15 is to be found in Ugaritic religious literature Many of these scholars believe that the passage contains elements of both El and Bacal myths, an assumption that leads them to discount the proposition that all the mythological strands of Isa xiv 12-15 can be correlated with a single Ugaritic myth Still others contend that only a single myth concerning the usurpation of El can account for all of the mythological features This article disputes both of these positions, arguing that no usurpation …

It was not the sort of place where one would expect to find the folks who produced the More-with-Less Cookbook, but the massive and hermetically sealed Opryland complex in Nashville was where 9,330 Mennonites gathered in early July for a momentous meeting. The two largest Mennonite bodies in the U.S. — the General Conference Mennonite Church (established in 1860) and the Mennonite Church (formally established in 1898, but with roots that go back much further) — voted to merge into one denomination, the Mennonite Church USA, after first finding a way to address the issue of homosexuality.

Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary (1973-2015)
In this essay I will evaluate Evan Fales's approach to the resurrection appearances of Jesus. His strategy is creative and lively, employing a considerably different approach from that of most contemporary scholars, hence its provocative nature.

Cultural Orientations: Migrations West, Migrations North, Richard Bushman
Cultural Orientations: Migrations West, Migrations North, Richard Bushman
CGU Faculty Publications and Research
The word "orientations" in the title of this essay refers to spatial orientations, as in points of the compass, and is meant to raise the question of cultural change along the South-North axis in North America. What happened to people as they moved northward in the eighteenth century, or more exactly, what was thought to happen to them? Much as been written about culture going from East to West and in the opposite direction from West to East. Contemporaries likewise spoke of the change in culture moving from North to South, but what about migrations from South to North, from …

Regulation Of Religious Proselytism In The United States, Howard O. Hunter, Polly J. Price
Regulation Of Religious Proselytism In The United States, Howard O. Hunter, Polly J. Price
Faculty Articles
This article will consider various aspects of the U.S. legal system that affect proselytism. Although the United States has had a longstanding constitutional guarantee of the “free exercise” of religion, there are nonetheless significant constraints upon free exercise directly relating to proselytism. Some legal commentators, including Douglas Laycock, have argued that our decentralized system of government leads to insufficient protection of religious liberty, especially for religious minorities. Most case law on the subject in the United States, as well as most attempts to regulate behavior by ordinance or statute, have developed in response to groups or individuals that are outside the …
