Differences Between The Water Baptism And The Moment Of Receiving The Holy Spirit, Caleb Otniel Traian Nechifor Dec 2011

Differences Between The Water Baptism And The Moment Of Receiving The Holy Spirit, Caleb Otniel Traian Nechifor

Caleb Otniel Traian Nechifor

From the New Testamental’s point of view, there are some differences between the time of the water baptism and the time of receiving the Holy Spirit. Even if chronologically the two acts can be very close, we can always make a clear temporal distinction between them. Using the most relevant passages from Acts, this article intends to prove that in all cases the baptism with the Holy Spirit was a distinct experience from the water baptism. The article also describes tangentially the receiving of the Holy Spirit.

Beyond Anti-Semitism, Rebecca Gould

Rebecca Gould

Focusing on internal contradictions within the Israeli left, this essay considers the impact of the historical legacy of anti-Semitism on everyday thinking about Israel and the Palestinian territories. Contesting the view that to criticize Israel is to engage in anti-Semitic defamation, it offers an historical account of how Israel's actions in the West Bank have come to be immunized from conscientious criticism. It also documents how progressive media outlets in contemporary Israel have silenced or otherwise marginalized Israel's most active critics.

Baptism In Water: Its Foundation, Form And Formula, Caleb Otniel Traian Nechifor

Caleb Otniel Traian Nechifor

Water baptism is the most common act of worship being carried out in any religious denomination. This article intends to demonstrate that Christian baptism did not occur from now here, but it is the result of an ascending process of purification rituals found in the Old Testament. Also, in the content of the article are presented other forms of baptism. Regarding the formula used in water baptism, the careful reader of the Bible, raises a legitimate question : Why did Jesus Christ command baptism to be done “in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy …

The Early Influences Of John Wesley, Concerning His Views Of The Ministry To Children, From The Mouths Of Children: John Wooley, G. Dan Harris

G. Dan Harris

Our focus continues on those who influenced Wesley in these areas of ministry to children. In several articles, we will look at a number of accounts Wesley included in his journal that came directly from the children themselves. Wesley encountered a number of children, and stories of children, who testified to and displayed a deep level of holiness and spiritual maturity. Despite the fact that Wesley often did not expand on his thoughts concerning these accounts, the fact that he included them, and almost never discounted them, seems to clearly indicate that he took each account as genuine. This article …

Craig Hovey

In this article, the author focuses on the objections of H. Tristram Engelhardt to the concept of social justice and some issues relative to the ethics of infanticide. How Much Does A Belief Cost?: Revisiting The Marketplace Of Ideas, Gregory Brazeal Jan 2011

How Much Does A Belief Cost?: Revisiting The Marketplace Of Ideas, Gregory Brazeal

Gregory Brazeal

Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. is often credited with creating the metaphor of “the marketplace of ideas,” though he did not use the exact phrase and his argument for free speech was not based on distinctively economic reasoning. Truly economic investigations of the marketplace of ideas have progressed in step with developments and trends in the law and economics literature. These investigations have tended to be one-sided, with writers focusing primarily either on the production of ideas (for example, Posner) or their consumption (for example, behavioral law and economics), without considering in depth how producers and consumers interact. This may …

Isaiah 7,14 - Virgin Or Maiden?, Jordan P. Ballard Jan 2011

Isaiah 7,14 - Virgin Or Maiden?, Jordan P. Ballard

Jordan P Ballard

The best definition of ’almah is “young, unmarried woman who is a virgin.” This definition is derived from the use of ’almah in Genesis 24:43, and it easily fits each of the verses where ’almah appears, depending on the interpretation. The term ’almah includes both the idea of age and virginity with an emphasis on “marriageableness.” This definition also makes good sense of Isaiah 7:14 LXX and Matthew 1:23 which translate ’almah with parthenos, the normal Greek word for “virgin.” Although the interpretation of the Immanuel prophecy involves more than the meaning of ’almah, the proper translation of ’almah is …
