A Reevaluation Of Some Iconographic Motifs On The Taanach Cult Stand, Brian R. Doak Nov 2007

A Reevaluation Of Some Iconographic Motifs On The Taanach Cult Stand, Brian R. Doak

Faculty Publications - George Fox School of Theology

Since its discovery in 1968, the so-called “Taanach cult stand” has generated no small amount of scholarly controversy; indeed, the unique combination of images on the stand evoke a variety of interpretations, perhaps due to the sheer number of key iconographic motifs used in combination and their implications for the history of religion within the borders of ancient “Israel” in the 10th century BCE. Composition Date Of The Synoptic Gospels, Jennell Botello

FIU Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this research paper is to follow a line of ongoing investigations that discuss dates for the origin of the synoptic gospels and evaluate the arguments for early, late, and intermediate dating and their susceptibility to critique from opposing arguments. There are three principal components in dating theories: (1) data from the Greek in the earliest texts (2) data concerning the provenance of the earliest texts (3) and data from the historical context of the first century.

The study is significant because, contrary to what might be expected, the starting and key point in deciding on a composition …

Thirty two loci were excavated in 2007 in areas A. They are located at the courtyard, the paved road to the city and probes in chamber 3. Area A-West, was designated as a separate area. Was Jesus Illegitimate? The Evidence Of His Social Interactions, James F. Mcgrath Jan 2007

Was Jesus Illegitimate? The Evidence Of His Social Interactions, James F. Mcgrath

Scholarship and Professional Work - LAS

This article examines the social status of the historical Jesus in relation to recent studies that place Jesus into the social category of an illegitimate child. After surveying the evidence with respect to the situation of such individuals in first century Mediterranean and Jewish society, we shall proceed to examine whether Jesus' implied social status (as evidenced by accounts of his adult social interactions) coheres with what one would expect in the case of someone who bore the stigma of that status. Our study suggests that the scandal caused by Jesus' association with the marginalized clearly implies that he did …
