For our orientation it will be advisable briefly to survey the passages in which the word "freedom" or "free" occurs. It is early in the Epistle that Paul first touches on this topic (2:3-5). In the historical sketch of his career he relates what happened when he and Barnabas, accompanied by Titus, went to Jerusalem.

A Study Of Hebrews 6:4-8, Herbert H. Hohenstein
A Study Of Hebrews 6:4-8, Herbert H. Hohenstein
Concordia Theological Monthly
The close relationship between "tasting the good Word of God" and "the powers of the age to come" is quite evident. The reason is, perhaps, as Davidson maintains, that the consummate blessings of these powers lie in the future. Therefore, by necessity, they must be "combined with the good word of promise." That is undoubtedly true. In addition, one might say that this "good word of promise" is itself that very power by which God establishes communion with men and thereby projects the blessings of that which is to come into that which now is. Cf. Rom. 1:16.

Paul's Baptismal Theology With Special Reference To Rom. 6, Walter Keller
Paul's Baptismal Theology With Special Reference To Rom. 6, Walter Keller
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The original intention was to undertake an exegetical investigation of this passage. However, it soon became obvious that, to understand the thought of the Apostle, it is impossible to confine one’s study to a simple passage. And so, though the original intention continued to remain the foremost concern, the problem assumed a broader scope, as the title of thesis indicates. Very naturally therefore, references to baptismal sayings outside the Pauline corpus lie outside the scope of this thesis, inasmuch as the purpose of the investigation is to ascertain the mind of Paul with regard to this sacrament.
An Exegetical Study Of St Paul's Concept Of Santification As Found In ἉδεάΖω And Ἁδεασμόs, Harvey Lange
An Exegetical Study Of St Paul's Concept Of Santification As Found In ἉδεάΖω And Ἁδεασμόs, Harvey Lange
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
It might be well to emphasize the fact that this is an exegetical study of sanctification; therefore sanctification as defined in this paper may or may not always agree with the other uses of sanctification in different theological disciplines.
A Study Of Hebrews 6:4-8, Herbert H. Hohenstein
A Study Of Hebrews 6:4-8, Herbert H. Hohenstein
Concordia Theological Monthly
Any effort to determine the relationship of this passage to the entire epistle must necessarily consider both the occasion and the purpose of the letter. There is one outstanding theme, the finality and perfection of the Christian religion. Christ, God's Son, has come down to give the climactic and clearest revelation of the God in whose bosom He has lain and to redeem mankind to this God whom He reveals. He who would hear this final Word of God must hear it in the Son. Not to listen is to die. Yes, to grow cold in attention to that Word …
The Synagogue And Its Influences, Daniel Brockhoff
The Synagogue And Its Influences, Daniel Brockhoff
Bachelor of Divinity
“Was the synagogue greatly influenced by the surrounding cultures in which it existed, and was the synagogue influential to any extent upon the surroundings in which it existed'?" The purpose of this thesis is to give some directives in order that a correct and factual answer might be obtained to those questions.
The Activity Of Angels In The Ministry Of Jesus, John E. Graudin
The Activity Of Angels In The Ministry Of Jesus, John E. Graudin
Bachelor of Divinity
The question this thesis attempts to answer is, "What were the activities of the angels during the earthly ministry of Jesus?” The scope of this thesis lies within the range of that question. It has been my aim to draw together the known material about the angels during this period, thus allowing us to get a better overview of their activities and importance.
An Historical Survey Of The Doctrine Of The Holy Spirit In The Old And New Testaments And Intertestamental Periods, Ralph Frederick Juengel
An Historical Survey Of The Doctrine Of The Holy Spirit In The Old And New Testaments And Intertestamental Periods, Ralph Frederick Juengel
Bachelor of Divinity
Since the Holy Spirit is only referred to explicitly three times in the Old Testament, the reader is amazed that such a jump can be made by John, or Christ for that matter, when speaking about the Holy Spirit, without having to explain just whom they mean. The Jews never take issue with the term in the New Testament. Apparently there must have been some doctrine or teaching prevalent in Christ's day, upon which the fuller revelation is based. The problem of this thesis is to try and find a bridge for the gap between the periods. This demands a …
A Study Of The Temple In The Gospel Of John, Harold E. Remus
A Study Of The Temple In The Gospel Of John, Harold E. Remus
Bachelor of Divinity
This study of the Temple in the Gospel of John indicates the fulfillment of the Old Testament Temple and its cultus in Jesus Christ. Although this is a Johannine study, it has been possible to take account of sayings about the Temple in the other three Gospels and to show their significance in a way that would have been impossible had the Fourth Gospel never been written.
The Divine Love Motif In Hosea And Jeremiah, Norman Charles Habel
The Divine Love Motif In Hosea And Jeremiah, Norman Charles Habel
Bachelor of Divinity
The main objective of this study then. is to outline clearly both the encounter and the message of each prophet over against the love of God, and to understand the basic concepts of the divine love motif as found in these two authors . On the basis of this outline certain leading conclusions can be formed by comparing the principle themes in each writer. In this way the basic unity and the significant diversity of their outlook can be summarized.
A Study Of Jesus' Counseling Techniques With Individuals In The Gospel Of St John Chapters Three And Four, Edward A. Rauff
A Study Of Jesus' Counseling Techniques With Individuals In The Gospel Of St John Chapters Three And Four, Edward A. Rauff
Bachelor of Divinity
The problem which this paper attempts to study and solve: Can the non- directive or psychanalytic approaches to counseling subtly presupposed in most counseling literature be the modus operandi of the Christian minister when these approaches are examined against the attitudes and methods of Jesus towards individuals as recorded in the Gospels, especially chapters three and four of St. John?
The Colossians Heresy, Gabriel H. Mendelman
The Colossians Heresy, Gabriel H. Mendelman
Bachelor of Divinity
This thesis covers the main body of the letter to the Colossians. It contains no remarks on the greeting, 1:1-3, or on the highly personalized conclusion in chapter 4. The concern of the writer is with the polemical portions of the Letter. It has been examined under five headings: first, The Congregation is Faithful; second, The Introductory Prayer; third, The Positive Doctrinal Statement; fourth, The Direct Attack on the Errorists; and fifth, The Practical Exhortations.
The Biblical Teaching Of The Visio Dei- A General Overview Of Its Scope And Its Implications For The Christian, Richard William Baldes
The Biblical Teaching Of The Visio Dei- A General Overview Of Its Scope And Its Implications For The Christian, Richard William Baldes
Bachelor of Divinity
While Greek and similar systems oftheo1ogy are fascinating, we want to examine briefly some that were a bit more connected and invo1ved with Christianity, and note their stress or lack of stress on the visio Dei. These will not necessarily be contemporary with New Testament times nor is it the purpose of this examination to revea1 their influence on, or their being influenced by the Christian teaching. The purpose of this examination is merely to give the reader an idea of the various strains of thought that were rampant in the people to whom the Christian teaching of the visio …
Justification As Described In The Parable Of The Unforgiving Servant, Matthew 18:23-35, Ray Fred Martens
Justification As Described In The Parable Of The Unforgiving Servant, Matthew 18:23-35, Ray Fred Martens
Bachelor of Divinity
This paper will then deal with a valid emphasis of the Parable of the Unforgiving Servant. Nor will the emphasis of this paper be unique with this writer. It is an emphasis that has not escaped the writings of many interpreters.
The Limits Within Which Realized Eschatology May Find A Place In The Eschatological Reference Of The Johannine Corpus, Robert J. Werberig
The Limits Within Which Realized Eschatology May Find A Place In The Eschatological Reference Of The Johannine Corpus, Robert J. Werberig
Bachelor of Divinity
Our chief concern in this thesis will be to show by exegetical investigation that eschatological references in the Johannine Corpus bear witness to an apocalyptically conceived "eschaton," but include also such as may be designated as "realized," and that the distinction between these two must be maintained.
This paper proposes fundamentally to make a study of those passages in John's Gospel which have a bearing on the eschatological question and which demonstrate a distinct eschatological orientation and outlook both in the words of Jesus as recorded by John and in the thought of John himself.
The Holy Spirit As A Seal And An Earnest- An Interpretation Of Ephesians 1:13-14, Wesley William Isenberg
The Holy Spirit As A Seal And An Earnest- An Interpretation Of Ephesians 1:13-14, Wesley William Isenberg
Bachelor of Divinity
The purpose of this thesis was to determine, within the framework of Ephesians l:13-14, the basic meanings and the resultant implications of the terms “seal” and “earnest” when applied to the Holy Spirit. As indicated by the title, the result of such a purpose is a detailed interpretation of two verses of the Pauline corpus.
The Son And The Sons An Exegetical Study Of Hebrews 2:5-18, Edwin Lawrence
The Son And The Sons An Exegetical Study Of Hebrews 2:5-18, Edwin Lawrence
Bachelor of Divinity
The aim of the writer to present Christianity as the absolute revelation of God for the absolute satisfaction of man's needs, a new dispensation which gives final answer to the destiny of man in the person of Jesus Christ. This new dispensation is far superior to the old which foreshadowed it.
The Influence Of The Servant Songson The Titles Of Jesus, Harry W. Hoemann
The Influence Of The Servant Songson The Titles Of Jesus, Harry W. Hoemann
Bachelor of Divinity
Not all of the titles of Jesus used in the New Testament are related to the Servant Songs. It is the purpose of this paper to examine those titles of Jesus used in the New Testament which have been influenced by the Servant Songs in order to determine the extent and significance of that influence.
The Christology Of The Apocalypse Based On The Lamb Passages, Donald R. Krueger
The Christology Of The Apocalypse Based On The Lamb Passages, Donald R. Krueger
Bachelor of Divinity
This thesis attempts to set forth a Christology of the Book of Revelation, more exactly called in the transliterated form of its first Greek word, the Apocalypse. The purpose of the writer has been to present, to the best of his ability under God, the portrait of Jesus Christ which the sacred text of the Apocalypse paints.
