Este artículo discute el impacto de la migración internacional en la población adulta mayor en Yucatán. Se presentan cinco estudios de caso de veintitrés entrevistas a profundidad realizadas a familias transnacionales. En este estudio encontramos que los padres y madres envejecidos que tienen hijos emigrados en California desarrollan un sentido de bienestar y calidad de vida positivo con base en el sostenimiento de redes familiares transnacionales e intergeneracionales, los trabajos del cuidado realizados por la parentela local, y el envío de remesas para el mejoramiento del patrimonio familiar. Felipe de Jesus Tapia Chablé nació en Peto Yucatán en el año de 1977. Este artículo explora una época que las corridas de toros celebradas en Yucatán —llamadas paywakax en lengua maya— fueron suprimidas por el régimen revolucionario de Salvador Alvarado y algunos de sus sucesores socialistas en la gubernatura del Estado (1915-1924). Presentamos resultados de un estudio sobre los saberes y prácticas de niños mayas en torno a salud y enfermedad. El objetivo es describir sus conceptualizaciones sobre la salud, las enfermedades que conocen, sus causas, tratamiento y prevención. El estudio lo realizamos con 12 niños mayas de Noh-Cah, Quintana Roo, México, que tenían entre 6 y 12 años. La metodología consistió en la elaboración de dibujos y entrevistas. Los resultados mostraron que para los niños estar sano significa estar felices y hacer lo que les gusta (jugar al aire libre o tomar bebidas frías). The early Pentecostal movement was characterized by social boundary crossing that challenged the church and society. Today, a growing number of Latinx theologian-scholars of Pentecostalism are foremost representatives of outspoken witness. They employ an emancipative hermeneutic that calls the contemporary Pentecostal community to holistic engagement and forcefully addresses corrupt power structures. This prophetic tradition, however, is being distorted by Samuel Rodríguez and the NHCLC through the denial of the human rights of Latinx immigrants and Muslims. Rodríguez is an outspoken advocate for Donald Trump’s dehumanizing immigration policies and the incarceration of migrant children at the U.S. borders. He is also …

Journal of Feminist Scholarship

This paper argues that home altars are archives. I consider the history of altars within Chicana community practices; political, and feminist critique of both patriarchal nationalism; and the role of the altar in challenging the public and private divide defined by nationalist discourses of the US and Aztlan. Furthermore, I use Amalia Mesa-Bains’s altar installation The Library of Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz to consider how altars are spaces of feminist queer memory-making and resistance against colonial logics.

Hay muchas dimensiones de los procesos de migrar y de acomodarse a otro país que se pueden tratar. Una de las más fundamentales es la religiosa. Después de recalcar su importancia, este ensayo explica cómo la Biblia puede ser un recurso de orientación para el inmigrante: allí encuentra historias que hacen eco de sus experiencias y le animan a perseverar, confiando en la soberanía de Dios. Aún, los inmigrantes pueden aportar nuevas apreciaciones a la lectura bíblica. El ensayo presenta el primer capítulo de Daniel como un caso de prueba.

The stories have been written to share within the community and with readers from other parts of Guatemala and beyond. Over three hundred years have passed since Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, the first feminist in the Americas, wrote her famous response defending her right to learn and to speak through her poetry. Today, the spoken word poetry of Melissa Lozada-Oliva, Denice Frohman, Mercedez Holtry, Melania Luisa Marte, and Elizabeth Acevedo grapples with the same matters Sor Juana did more than three hundred years ago.
