1st Annual Chicano Commencement

In 1971, Chicano Commencement... held the first celebration at the Guadalupe church in San Jose, California. The organizers did not restrict the event to SJSU students but opened it to "Any Chicano student graduating from a state college, university, or junior college."

Juan De Torquemada And Antonio Alcedo: Two Contributions To Hispanic Historiography, Andre Preibish

The Courier

Andre Preibish describes two rare books by Juan De Torquemada and Antonio Alcedo, which shed light on colonial Mexico and America, respectively. Although much of Torquemada's writing is plagiarized, he cites previously unknown authors and works. Antonio Alcedo, meanwhile, provides an encyclopedic description of Spanish colonies and of the western hemisphere during the eighteenth century.
