‘One Is Not Born A Latina, One Becomes One’: The Construction Of The Latina Feminist Theologian In Latino/A Theology, Michelle A. González

Journal of Hispanic / Latino Theology

The author argues that feminism and feminist theory are not taken seriously enough as critical resources in Latina/o theology. She interrogates the politics of identity as practiced &mdash overtly and covertly by Latinx theologian &mdash and how that identity discourse refracts the production of theology in the academy. She calls for greater collaboration among feminist theologians, as well as women who do not consciously use a feminist hermeneutic. Finally, she urges Latino theology to train a hermeneutics of suspicion on every essentialism, particularly figurings of "the people," as they often appear in Latinx theologies.

When the United States government and troops attempted to destroy the Lakota culture by killing the buffalo, placing the Lakota on reservation, and forcing the Lakota to adopt European-Aemrican attitudes and behaviors, Lakota women preserved elements of their culture by symbolically sewing Lakota history and worldviews into the Star Quilt.

The Evolution Of Human Life Expectancy And Intelligence In Hunter-Gatherer Economies, Hillard Kaplan

The economics of hunting and gathering must have driven the biological evolution of human characteristics, since hunter-gatherer societies prevailed for the two million years of human history. These societies feature huge intergenerational resource flows, suggesting that these resource flows should replace fertility as the key demographic consideration. It is then theoretically expected that life expectancy and brain size would increase simultaneously, as apparently occurred during our evolutionary history. The brain here is considered as a direct form of bodily investment, but also crucially as facilitating further indirect investment by means of learning-by-doing.

The fall of Granada in 1492 reestablished Christian dominion in Spain after centuries of Islamic rule. The rapid expansion of Islam from Arabia in the 7th century encompassed the rich cultural legacy of the Late Antique world, forging a unified empire throughout the Middle East and eastern Mediterranean lands and across North Africa to Spain within a short span of several decades. Arab and Berber armies had crossed into Spain in 711, generating at once an effort that lasted for many generations to restore Christian rule. In Islamic times, the Iberian peninsula was called al-Andalus, or Andalusia. Although we have …
