The term, Negro poetry, has several interpretations. In its most general sense, the one in which it is used in this paper, it means poetry written by Negroes on any subject. In a more restricted sense it refers to poetry that contains allusions, rhythms, sentiments and idioms more or less peculiar to the Negro. This United States (US) public law, also known as the Indian Reorganization Act, the Wheeler-Howard Act, or the Indian New Deal, passed on June 18, 1934 in response to the Meriam Report which revealed immense poverty and poor living conditions among Indigenous People on reservations. The Indian Reorganization Act (IRA) aimed to alleviate these conditions with several corrective measures, notably by stopping the allotment of reservation land and by allowing tribes to organize under their own tribal governments. This thesis, submitted to the faculty of Xavier University in partial fulfillment of requirements for a bachelor's degree in 1933, documents the working and economic conditions of Black citizens in New Orleans, Louisiana during the Great Depression. The study presents occupational wage data across trades including bricklaying, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work, as well as domestic service, professional fields, and the insurance industry. Unemployment relief statistics for the Black population of Louisiana are documented, including data on the number of workers receiving relief and average relief payments as of February 1933. This ethnographic study, dated January 1, 1924, sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution Bureau of Ethnography presents information about the social and ceremonial significance of music to the Mandan and Hidatsa tribes as collected by anthropologist Frances Densmore from the Fort Berthold Reservation in 1912, 1915, and 1918. This study was conducted at the behest of the State Historical Society of North Dakota. The collection includes a catalogue of songs, a description of customs, legends, folk tales, societies, and photographs of musical instruments, some tribal members, earth lodges and other structures.
