Sun-Tzuian Critique Of The Russian Strategy In Its War Against Ukraine, Eduard Vicuna
Sun-Tzuian Critique Of The Russian Strategy In Its War Against Ukraine, Eduard Vicuna
Mabini Review
This study examines the effectiveness of Russian military strategy in the Ukraine war through the lens of Sun-Tzu’s strategic philosophy. Grounded in Sun-Tzu’s principles of warfare, the study evaluates Russian strategy using five key elements: Leader Values, People’s Belief, Mitigation, Environment, and Information. Employing a qualitative methodology, the research analyzes military decisions and tactics based on these strategic dimensions. Findings indicate that while Russia initially relied on deception and overwhelming force, its failure to achieve a swift victory stemmed from flawed planning, underestimated Ukrainian resistance, and logistical challenges. The study highlights the critical role of intelligence, adaptability, and psychological warfare, …
Pagtatahip: Doing Filipino Philosophy, Bernard Bragas
Pagtatahip: Doing Filipino Philosophy, Bernard Bragas
Mabini Review
This paper explains that the way Filipinos were molded cause paradoxes and ambiguities in the way we philosophize. It is then necessary to do pagtatahip (to winnow, as a way of nuancing) for a Filipino Philosophy. This is evident in the philosophical elucidation in the concept of loob by Fr. Alejo In this kind of nuancing, it is evident that Filipino concepts are not outrightly contradictory and not just deliberate acceptance of contradictories. The concept winnowed allows constructing a liberating Philosophy appropriate for a Filipino Philosophy.
The Fantasies Of Filipino Identities: The Ironies Of Racial Discourse In The 19th Century Philippines, Michael Roland Hernandez
The Fantasies Of Filipino Identities: The Ironies Of Racial Discourse In The 19th Century Philippines, Michael Roland Hernandez
Mabini Review
This paper argues that the genealogical deconstruction of the 19th century idea of “Filipino identity” within the works of notable historical figures such as Luis Rodriguez Varela, Jose Burgos and the Filipino ilustrados, led by Jose Rizal, reveals its ground on the racial discourse of Eurocentric Hispanophilia. Contrary to the assumption that they were fighting for the emancipation of a colonized people against an unjust Spanish colonial regime, their works are more properly contextualized as political attempts to secure their own parochial privileges. “Filipinoness” and its attendant concept of the nation were, ultimately, not aimed at the destruction of Empire, …
Indifference To Difference Or In Deference Todifference: A Treatise Of Inclusion, Noel Pariñas
Indifference To Difference Or In Deference Todifference: A Treatise Of Inclusion, Noel Pariñas
Mabini Review
This paper is a critical investigation of the concept of inclusion. It argues that the alternatives or disjuncts in the strict or exclusive disjunction are mutually exclusive: either we exclude, or we include – no middle ground. The choice to either totally exclude or totally include is a political exercise of freedom of being indifferent to differences or being deferent to differences respectively. In this context, inclusion is viewed as a critical attitude towards pluralism that accepts, but not without deep examination, the breaches of totality and the advances of the radical alterity. The paper begins with [1] a careful …
The Relevance Of Cultural Transformationand Autonomy Of Thinking In Filipinophilosophy: A Critical Essay, Nathanael Navarro
The Relevance Of Cultural Transformationand Autonomy Of Thinking In Filipinophilosophy: A Critical Essay, Nathanael Navarro
Mabini Review
Problematizing the coming fruition of cultural transformation and autonomy of thinking, this essay attempts to give Filipino society a disillusioned view of its national character. Centering on Leonardo Mercado’s trite notion of a given and almost static culture, the essay argues that cultural change is possible and necessary in the formation of a culture of intellectualization. This essay also serves to expose the working assumptions at the core of Mercado’s brand of Filipino Philosophy to deliver a prompt reminder of the purpose of philosophizing as an emancipative act from any face of social oppression. Ultimately, it challenges the view that …

Angat Buhay Lahat? A Review On The State Of Philippine Politics And The Frame Of Democracy During The 2022 Philippine National Elections, Arvin John Ramirez
Mabini Review
The 1987 Philippine Constitution describes the Philippines as a “democratic and republican State”. The same constitution upheld sovereignty of the country resides in the Filipino people and such that the government authority emanates from them. This provision clearly describes how democracy should work in the Philippines. However, election-related violence and vote buying are still happening around the country. These incidences are backed up by various theories about how democracy is operated in the Philippines such as elite democracy, patron-client framework and utang na loob. These two concepts may be the reason why political dynasties exist in the country, which leads …

Mabini Review
Apart from being an academic and a researcher, a philosopher also faces a great challenge to fulfill their role as a critic of their society. In response to this challenge, the current article seeks to unveil some manifestations of this role in the Filipino context by means of glimpsing into some significant stages in the History of Critical Filipino Philosophy. This discussion is divided into three parts: (1) the Beginnings of Critical Filipino Philosophy during the time of the Propagandists, (2) its decline entering the 1970’s due to the brewing Marcos Dictatorship, and (3) its re-strengthening after the Dictatorship. This …
