On Craft, William Lentjes May 2017

On Craft, William Lentjes

Bachelor of Architecture Theses - 5th Year

Craft is a relationship - a dialogue - between craftsman, tool, and material. Craft begins with the intent of all of these loci, and all of these loci are rooted in Being.

Being is known through the consciousness, awareness, and perception of a subject. Being is the inherent existence and totality of "what is."

Being crafts us; Craft imbues Being.

This thesis re-examines the pedagogical approach of an architectural education. The focus is placed on craft through presuppositionless phenomenology.

In an age of endless mechanized production and spiritless materialism, the practice of craft can teach us to return to the …

Ethical Reform In Bangladesh’S Ready Made Garment Industry: Building On The Alliance And The Accord, Serena Newhall

Siegel Institute Ethics Research Scholars

The Bangladeshi garment production industry was examined in terms of current building structure and fire safety mechanisms in place, and the opportunity to build upon those standards in order to strategically address growing market demands for ethically produced garments within the ready-made garment (RMG) industry. In determining whether Bangladesh’s RMG industry could pay above the country’s low minimum wage, and still remain competitive, a linear regression model was used to better understand and quantify the price sensitivity of the country’s RMG export products.

Models Of Time Travel And Their Consequences, Antonio M. Mantica Jun 2015

Models Of Time Travel And Their Consequences, Antonio M. Mantica

Oglethorpe Journal of Undergraduate Research

How do we travel through time? We know that we can move forward in it (we have no choice), but can we jump forward in time? Can we go backward in time? It also gives rise to other troubling questions: is time measurable in distinct increments, or does it flow continuously? In "Models of Time Travel and their Consequences," Antonio Mantica walks the reader through current understandings of how time functions in Einstein's universe and proposes three distinct models to explain it. Following that, he provides a list of experiments to credit or discredit the models. Appropriate for audiences of …

The Effect Of God On The Cogito: An Examination Of Descartes' Meditations On First Philosophy, Alex Valin Apr 2015

The Effect Of God On The Cogito: An Examination Of Descartes' Meditations On First Philosophy, Alex Valin

Oglethorpe Journal of Undergraduate Research

In Descartes’ Meditations on First Philosophy, he claims on of his most enduring arguments, the Cogito: I think, I am. Following his argument for the Cogito, however, Descartes argues for the existence of an infinite, all powerful, all knowing God. Critiques of this argument fall into several different camps. First, that God remains a fundamental principle for Descartes’ epistemology and metaphysics. Secondly, that the inclusion of the argument for God was put in to please Church officials. Finally, that what Descartes’ terms God actually represents his own mind. In this essay, I examine Descartes’ argument for God as a fundamental …
