The aim of this thesis is to call attention to some of the shortcomings of a cognitivist theory’s incorporation of feeling into a philosophy of emotion. There has been a tendency within the cognitivist theories to assume as irreducible the intentional structures through which these theories operate. A consequence of this tendency often sees feelings compartmentalized through internal and external distinctions, such as bodily feelings and world-directed feelings. Emotional abuses within LGBTQ2SIA* communities are rarely acknowledged as existing or often normalized. Through care and anti-oppression works, transformative justice models such as community and self-accountability have helped carve out ways of addressing harm directly and breaking cycles of violence. The research in this thesis has been through mixed qualitative methodologies including semi-structured interviews and surveys. The participants' along with other authors, artists, activists and scholars’ narratives draws upon the experiences of emotional abuse lived within structural and social surveillance. The laws, policies, and rehabilitation programs of Georgia’s juvenile justice system need to be revisited, especially given the documented rates of recidivism of African American male juveniles in southwest Georgia. The primary purpose of the juvenile justice system is to rehabilitate youthful offenders and to ensure that recidivism, defined as 3 or more arrests within 3 years after release, does not occur. Providing a wholly physical description of consciousness in nature is an elusive process. Unlike all other physical systems, consciousness seems to be explainable only if it is considered as non-physical. However, the arguments for a materialist view of consciousness, with consciousness prioritized as a process which creates imperfect dependence relations in reality, eliminates the need for a dualist understanding of reality. Through an explanation of imperfect dependence, materialist consciousness overcomes all relevant dualist arguments, while simultaneously retaining an epistemic gap, denying the conceivability of zombies, and providing convincing explanations of seemingly dualist positions in a materialist fashion.

A moral judgment is the conclusion of a psychological process, and a moral belief is thecognitive content resulting from it. Some experiences constrain the moral beliefs, principles, and convictions from which moral judgments are causally formed. If these experiences are associated with an underlying belief, principle, or conviction, they add context to it. Acquiring new contextual information through experience prompts reflection, which leads to the development of new morally relevant reasons. In the United States, documentary filmmakers, journalists, academics, and politicians have taken note of the increasing threats to our security coming from a subculture that appears to feed on murder and brutality while being fed by a romanticism about power and capital. การถกเถียงประเด็นเรื่องท่าทีของพุทธศาสนาต่อศาสนาอื่นที่ผ่านมา นักวิชาการทางพุทธศาสนาส่วนใหญ่เห็นว่าพุทธศาสนามีแนวคิดแบบกีดกันหรือแนวคิดแบบรวมเข้าทั้งหมด วิทยานิพนธ์นี้เสนอว่าพุทธศาสนามีแนวคิดแบบพหุนิยมในแง่มุมที่แตกต่างกันในสี่มิติ ได้แก่ อภิปรัชญา ญาณวิทยา จุดหมายสูงสุด และวิถีปฏิบัติ (1) มิติด้านอภิปรัชญา หลักคำสอนของพุทธศาสนายืนยันว่าสัจธรรมเป็นสิ่งสากลโดยพระพุทธเจ้าเป็นเพียงผู้ค้นพบและพระองค์เป็นผู้ทรงสัพพัญญูในเรื่องการดับทุกข์ ทั้งนี้ พุทธศาสนายืนยันความเป็นไปได้ที่ศาสนาอื่นอาจค้นพบสัจธรรม แต่ไม่ได้ยอมรับว่าหลักคำสอนของทุกศาสนาจะเป็นจริงอย่างเท่าเทียมกันทั้งหมด (2) มิติด้านญาณวิทยา มนุษย์จำเป็นต้องตรวจสอบหลักคำสอนของศาสนาทั้งหลายซึ่งรวมถึงหลักคำสอนของพุทธศาสนา การตรวจสอบนั้นต้องไม่ได้เริ่มต้นจากการยืนยันว่าหลักคำสอนของพุทธศาสนาเท่านั้นที่เป็นจริง พุทธศาสนาเสนอให้ตรวจสอบหลักคำสอนของศาสนาทั้งหลายด้วยประสาทสัมผัสของปุถุชนสามัญ วิธีการนี้จะทำให้ผู้คนทั่วไปในสังคมสามารถมีส่วนร่วมตรวจสอบความจริงทางศาสนาได้อย่างเท่าเทียมกันและหาข้อยุติร่วมกันได้ (3) มิติด้านจุดหมายสูงสุด พุทธศาสนามองว่าศาสนาทั้งหลายไม่ได้มีจุดหมายสูงสุดร่วมกันทั้งหมด ซึ่งสื่อนัยว่าศาสนาทั้งหลายอาจมีหลักคำสอนและวิถีปฏิบัติที่แตกต่างกันสำหรับจุดหมายสูงสุดที่แตกต่างกัน ในทัศนะของพุทธศาสนา จุดหมายสูงสุดคือความหลุดพ้นจากความทุกข์อย่างสิ้นเชิง (4) มิติด้านวิถีปฏิบัติไปสู่จุดหมายสูงสุด พุทธศาสนายืนยันว่าหลักอริยมรรคมีองค์แปดคือวิถีปฏิบัติเดียวที่นำไปสู่ความหลุดพ้น แต่หลักอริยมรรคมีองค์แปดสามารถถูกแสดงได้ในหลากหลายชื่อเรียกและรูปแบบขึ้นอยู่กับบริบททางสังคมและสติปัญญาของผู้ฟังธรรม และมีความเป็นไปได้ที่วิถีปฏิบัตินี้จะมีอยู่ในหลักคำสอนของศาสนาอื่น

พุทธศาสนาเถรวาทมีความเข้าใจต่อความทุกข์เฉพาะทั้งห้าประการของสตรี ในอาเวณิกสูตร ว่าเป็นความทุกข์ของสตรีที่มีความเป็นเฉพาะต่างจากความทุกข์ของบุรุษ โดยที่กายในเชิงชีววิทยาและกายในบริบทเชิงสังคมวัฒนธรรมของสตรีเป็นเงื่อนไขของความทุกข์เฉพาะนี้ วิถีการดับทุกข์ของสตรีย่อมมีวิธีต่างจากวิถีการหลุดพ้นของบุรุษ วิทยานิพนธ์นี้จึงมุ่งศึกษาและวิเคราะห์แนวคิดเรื่องกายภิกษุณีกับการบรรลุธรรมโดยเสนอว่ากายสามารถเป็นเงื่อนไขในการดับทุกข์ของสตรีอย่างมีนัยสำคัญ และมีกระบวนการปฏิบัติในฐานะภิกษุณีเป็นเงื่อนไขสำคัญยิ่งต่อการบรรลุธรรมของสตรี วิทยานิพนธ์นี้ได้ใช้แนวคิดเรื่องกายเป็นกรอบการวิเคราะห์เทียบเคียงพระวินัย ว่าด้วยอาบัติปาราชิกของภิกษุณีที่แตกต่างจากอาบัติปาราชิกของภิกษุ และใช้แนวคิดเรื่องกายภิกษุณี วิเคราะห์พระวินัยภิกษุณีสงฆ์ 130 สิกขาบทในมิติทั้งสาม ได้แก่ 1. กายภิกษุณีในฐานะกายสตรี 2. กายภิกษุณีในชุมชนภิกษุณีสงฆ์ และ3.กายภิกษุณีกับภิกษุและกับฆราวาสในเชิงความสัมพันธ์ โดยพิจารณาว่าพระวินัยภิกษุณีสามารถเกื้อกูลต่อกายเชิงชีววิทยาและขจัดอุปสรรคที่เกี่ยวกับกายในเชิงบริบททางสังคมวัฒนธรรมเพื่อเกื้อกูลการบรรลุธรรมให้แก่สตรี วิทยานิพนธ์ยังได้วิเคราะห์เทียบเคียงคัมภีร์เถรีคาถา กับคัมภีร์เถรคาถา ด้วยกรอบคิดเรื่องกาย โดยพบว่าแง่มุมที่พระเถรีมีต่อกายของตนในฐานะเหตุแห่งทุกข์ กายในฐานะอุปสรรคต่อการปฏิบัติธรรม และกายในฐานะเงื่อนไขของการบรรลุธรรมมีความแตกต่างจากที่พระเถระมีต่อกายของตน วิทยานิพนธ์นี้พบว่าพุทธศาสนาเสนอการรื้อสร้างกายให้แก่สตรีในฐานะภิกษุณี ในแง่ของการรื้อกายด้วยการทำกายานุปัสสนา การทำอสุภกรรมฐานคือการใช้กายเป็นเครื่องมือให้ตระหนักถึงความไม่เที่ยงและความน่ารังเกียจเพื่อคลายความยึดมั่นต่อร่างกาย ขณะที่พุทธศาสนาสร้างกายสตรีในฐานะกายภิกษุณี ในแง่ของการบัญญัติพระวินัยภิกษุณีให้เกื้อกูลการปฏิบัติธรรมแก่ภิกษุณีในชุมชนภิกษุณีสงฆ์เพื่อเป็นวิถีสู่การดับทุกข์ของสตรี

มีความเข้าใจกันว่าคัมภีร์จวงจื่อเสนอความคิดเกี่ยวกับการหลีกลี้สังคมในรูปแบบของฤาษีที่ถอนตัวออกจากพื้นที่ทางสังคมและการเมืองโดยปลีกวิเวกไปอยู่ในที่ห่างไกลจากผู้คน อย่างไรก็ตาม วิทยานิพนธ์นี้เสนอว่าแนวคิดการหลีกลี้ในคัมภีร์จวงจื่อมิได้มีเพียงการหลีกลี้แบบฤาษีเพื่อรักษาความบริสุทธิ์ของตนเองเท่านั้น แต่ยังรวมถึงการหลีกลี้ภายในสังคมที่เป็นการหลีกลี้จากอำนาจทางการเมืองโดยดำรงชีวิตอย่างเรียบง่ายภายในสังคม และการหลีกลี้อีกแบบที่เรียกว่า “การเร้นการในฟ้า” ทั้งนี้เพราะในคัมภีร์จวงจื่อโดยเฉพาะกลุ่มบทในปรากฏตัวบทที่เป็นข้อเสนอเกี่ยวกับการดำรงชีวิตในพื้นที่ทางการเมืองอย่างชัดเจน “การเร้นกายในฟ้า” เป็นการหลีกลี้ที่ไม่จำเป็นต้องถอนตัวออกจากพื้นที่ทางสังคมและการเมือง เป็นการหลีกเร้นตนจากอันตรายด้วยการอยู่ร่วมกับสิ่งต่างๆ ที่แปรเปลี่ยนอย่างยืดหยุ่น โดยการคลายความยึดถือความคิดและเป้าหมายการขัดเกลาตัวตนทางสังคมให้กลายเป็นแบบใดแบบหนึ่งอย่างตายตัว ผ่านการตระหนักถึงการใช้ชีวิตร่วมกับสรรพสิ่งในฐานะสิ่งที่แปรเปลี่ยนไปตลอดเวลาและการตระหนักถึงความแตกต่างหลากหลายของคุณค่าและตัวตน การเร้นกายในฟ้ายังแสดงให้เห็นถึงความสำคัญของการหลีกลี้ของพวกสำนักเต๋าในฐานะเป็นวิธีการหนึ่งในการจัดการกับความตึงแย้งในตัวตน ซึ่งความตึงแย้งนี้มาจากอิทธิพลทางความคิดของขงจื่อเกี่ยวกับการสร้างตัวตนทางสังคม
