College of Education Theses and Dissertations

Leadership is the key determinant in the success of any organization, and leaders have an immeasurable impact on the lives and performances of those they have been entrusted to develop, support and lead. School principals are an integral part of the leadership tapestry within society and many people have been impacted by a school principal. Often enough, there are individuals who lead with or behind their title versus understanding first who they are intrinsically, and then working through those dynamics to effectively lead their own lives. Atlas Planted, Annelise Belmonte

College of Computing and Digital Media Dissertations

In "Atlas Planted," the game world plays as a life theater production where the storyline is influenced by player and other characters in a metaphorical and literal gardening mechanic. The emphasis on selfish vs selfless action in regards to energy and foliage serves as a critique of social responsibility and objectivism, the philosophy developed by Ayn Rand where each person is their own hero. The primary emphasis of this research is the exploration and development of a Žižekian lens of teacher reflection. This methodological exploration further considers how the Žižekian lens can functions as a unique contribution to both teacher education and the philosophy of education through the exploration of particular pathways of teacher consciousness and misrecognitions of self-identity in relation to the discourse of education. Following Žižek, teacher reflection is an act of resistance to this discourse that begins with uncovering the failure of our own perception as the result of a misperception at the limits of being in/through the big Other thereby …
