Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 3677. Biographical data on Eugenia B. Farmer, who worked for woman suffrage in Covington, Kentucky before moving to St. Paul, Minnesota. Includes Farmer’s address, “A Voice from the Civil War,” read at the 1918 Minnesota Woman Suffrage Convention; clippings from St. Paul newspapers; and a 2016 article from the Northern Kentucky Tribune. Also includes death certificates for Farmer and her husband.

This thesis examines and follows the actions of an understudied activist in the environmentalist movement: Rosalie Edge. This thesis relies and encourages a combination of conservation, environmentalism, and historical women’s history in America. Rosalie Edge’s work as an environmentalist created a new and effective way for environmentalists to advocate for the environment around them. She created a pamphlet medium that invited scientists and other conservationists to publish writings and opinions that went against what the Audubon Society, the Biological Survey, and legislators were doing and publishing. Located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the University of Alabama was chartered in 1820 and is Alabama’s oldest public university. Prior to 1956, the University was segregated; admission was limited to white men and women. On February 3, 1965, Miss Autherine Lucy stepped foot on campus for the first time to attend classes at the University; history was made as she was the first African American present. Lucy’s attendance stirred conflict throughout campus and the state of Alabama. Unbeknownst to many, Lucy’s attendance garnered both national and international attention. Letter, 11 March 1920, to her friend “Mabel” (suffragist Mabel Vernon?) from author, reformer and activist Dorothy Canfield Fisher, Arlington, Vermont. She reports on seeing mutual friends at a speaking engagement but expresses an unwillingness to accept further invitations in favor of home life and a “big piece of work” she has recently undertaken. She also refers to her three-year residence in France, which put her out of touch with news at home.
