Doris Copley Miller was a Huntington, West Virginia poet, newspaperwoman, and local historian. Papers include her work in draft and printed form and correspondence, notably the Jesse Stuart letters. It also contains poetry submissions from other friends and the public as well as working files from her years as religion, education and poetry editor at the Huntington Publishing Company. In addition to her newspaper columns, she also conducted genealogical research.

Carrie Eldridge is a genealogical researcher in Chesapeake, Ohio. This collection contains photocopies of many county record books of the Appalachian areas of West Virginia, Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky, ranging from the American Revolution until the early twentieth century. It also contains her personal research files on topics related to slavery and the Underground Railroad in Ohio and West Virginia as well as local history topics such as church and family histories.

This addendum to the Revella E. Hughes papers consists of correspondence, professional papers, photographs, holograph music manuscripts, notebooks, plaques, certificates, photographs, and audio cassette tapes. Also included are programs and announcements of concerts, recitals, and other musical events in which Miss Hughes participated. The newspaper clippings and programs encompass the range of Miss Hughes' performing career, from 1909, at Hartshorn and Memorial College in Richmond, Virginia, until her final appearances in West Virginia in 1985 and 1986.

The collection contains of two manuscripts bound together, “George Webb Family Deeds Recorded in States of North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia” and “Family Bible of Benjamin Franklin Swann, Louisa Jane Hatfield Swann”. These manuscripts were copied by Marion S. McCullough and Helen B. Webb, both members of the Westmoreland Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. They former manuscript contains transcriptions of six deed records while the latter contains four pages of birth, marriage, death, and other family bible records. An index is included.

Collection contains 14 volumes of `Longview,' a newsletter written by patients 1948-1962. Three scrapbooks relate to the West Virginia Mental Health Association and its efforts to improve care for mental health patients in the state.

The Nancy Murray Mann papers consist of correspondences, speeches in various paper formats, newspaper clippings, government publications, photographs, copies of Mann’s passport, land deeds, and research notes from Ben Riley, a Marshall University graduate student from 1983-1985. The focus of the collection primarily covers Mann’s political and social activities, particularly her political involvement during the 1928 presidential campaign for Herbert Hoover and her subsequent work during his administration. Several of her letters are addressed to President Hoover; however almost of the responses come from his secretary Lawrence Richey. Papers consist primarily of diaries, newspaper clippings, correspondence, genealogies and photographs of five families: the Glanville-Carter families of St. Louis, Mo.; the Whittakers of Preble County, Ohio; Dorothy Whittaker Atkins of Huntington, West Virginia.; and the Heacocks of Bucks County, Penna.

A significant part of the collection are the diaries of Annie Heacock, a teacher at the Penn School for freed slaves in Beaufort, South Carolina, 1864-1869. Other diaries include the Civil War diary of John Whittaker, a surgeon in the 81st Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

This collection consists of scanned copies of clippings, a book, two scrapbooks primarily about Irene Drukker Broh and her mother Sara Tobias Broh. Included are one scrapbook each by Irene and Sara, each consisting primarily of clippings about social issues and other ephemera. Also included in the collection is a significant number of clippings about Irene throughout her life, a term paper written about Irene’s activist work, and a copy of “A Literary Find” by Sara Tobias Drukker, composed of a posthumous publication of Drukker’s work. As all items in the collections are scanned, legibility varies.

This collection consists of one volume entitled, “All About Going Abroad: With Maps and A Handy Travel Diary” by Harry A. Franck, 1927. The front leaf indicates that the book was presented from Jennie to Minnie in honor of their trip abroad documented in the volume. The volume contains a diary section that is filled with entries ranging in date from June 22 to July 29, 1929. The entries cover western Europe and document what the Emmons did during their time abroad, as well as some historical background on the places where they traveled.
