This Autograph Book, also called an Album Book, belonged to Lucinda Lenore Merriss Cornell and is full of messages, many of them poems, written to her by friends and family. The book is bound in black leather decorated with floral designs and printed with several picturesque engravings in its pages like "View of Northumberland (on the Susquehanna)" engraved by H. Griffiths after a picture by W. H. Bartlet.

Louisa Catherine Adams was the wife of John Quincy Adams. She was the first lady from 1825-1829, and she was the only first lady to be born outside the U.S. Adams writes this poem to Thomas, stating "your presence eased the lab'ring thought/the note aside was laid/ Before, with kind expression fraught/my compliment was paid." Dated January 25, 1842.

Wife of the late Mr. Richard Harris, of Franklin County, State of New-York; who, with Mrs. Clarissa Plummer, wife of Mr. James Plummer, were, in the Spring of 1835, (with their unfortunate husbands,) taken prisoners by the Camanche tribe of Indians, while emigrating from said Franklin County (N.Y.) to Texas; and after having been made to witness the tragical deaths of their husbands, and held nearly two years in bondage, were providentially redeemed therefrom by two of their countrymen attached to a company of Santa Fe Fur Traders.

Charles Carroll of Carrollton was a wealthy Maryland planter and an early advocate of independence from Great Britain. He was a continental Congress delegate and a US Senator for Maryland. He was the last signer of the Declaration of Independence to die. This letter was written 3 years before his death at age 95. The Mrs. Harper he writes about it most likely his daughter, the widow of Robert Goodloe Harper.
