This collection consists of a minute book for the Parkersburg Colored Civic Welfare League covering the period from 1932-1934, a letter of thanks from a League-funded college student in Florida with 1932 minutes on the back, Virgie Giles membership card to the Ohio Association of Colored Women’s Clubs, an invitation to a charity ball, and a card announcing the opening of Giles’ “La Giles Beauty Parlor” in Parkersburg.

The original accession record states that the collection contains a diploma from Marshall College State Normal School and holograph copy of speech delivered at commencement on July 5, 1878. The speech copy is present, but the diploma was unable to be located at the time of finding aid creation.

This collection consists of a single letter to Miss Bernice Wright, mathematics professor at Marshall College, from a student expressing his appreciation of her skill and patience and wishing that Marshall was a university so that he could continue to study there. This letter was found in Edwin S. Crawley's " Analytic geometry", rev. ed. Crofts, 1929. The name, "Hackney" was on the front endpaper.

This collection contains a letter written by Aaron Gatchel on April 18, 1865 in Petersburg, Virginia to his brother David in Urichsville, Ohio. The letter describes an engagement at Dinwiddie Court House, Virginia; gives losses of the 13th Regiment, Ohio Volunteer Cavalry, Company B; and comments on Lincoln's assassination. A transcript of the letter is included in the collection.
