This ten-page typed Position Paper to the Government of Canada was presented by a group of Tobique First Nation women who organized a march from the Oka Reserve in Quebec to Ottawa. The paper lists many problems and recommendations for solutions to issues facing indigenous women and children including housing and health. Criticisms of the amendment to the Indian Act of 1951 also focus on the retention of Indian status and rights which are often unknowingly given up by women.

What would be the reaction of American citizens to welfare recipients striking against the government which aided them?
In July, 1939, over one hundred thousand Works Projects Administration (WPA) workers protested a change in working hours and salary by striking. WPA, created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935, was an attempt to aid the unemployed through work relief programs. Earlier New Deal efforts at work relief, the Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA) and Civil Works Administration (CWA), had not succeeded in meeting the demands of able-bodied, but idle workers.
WPA, however, faced a major problem that would recur throughout …

This typed eight-page letter to the U.S. Secretary of the Interior from the Director of the Fish and Wildlife Service was sent on May 15, 1979. The letter reviews the impact of Fish and Wildlife Service policies on Native American religious practices in light of the passage of the American Indian Religious Freedom Act of 1978. It examines conflicts with bald and golden eagle regulations, migratory bird regulations, and endangered species regulations and outlines exceptions and steps taken to comply with the Act such as religious permits and the establishment of depositories for eagle parts.

American Perceptions Of Chinese Communism 1945-1950, Edward C. O'Dowd

This thesis explores the images of the Chinese Communists which were held by career Foreign Service Officers in China, non-career diplomats in China and the decision-making elite in Washington during the period of time from 1945 to 1950. The study centers on the questions of the tractability of the Chinese Communists to negotiations and the connection of the Chinese Communists to the Soviets. The study uses several propositions of social psychology to explain the differing images and the resulting effect on Sino-American relations.

Edmund Burke, the eighteenth-century philosopher and politician, participated as a member of the Marquis of Rockingham's political faction, as a member of England's Parliament for Bristol from 1774 to 1780 and as an agent for the colony of New York from 1771 to 1775. The purpose of this inquiry is to describe the relations between these two cities, Burke's motivations, his rationalization of his convictions and his prior allegiance to his patron in dealing with his constituencies during his ten years in service to these two cities. Confederate railroad policies had a disruptive effect on the final outcome of the war for the South. This thesis endeavors to examine the history of the construction of the Piedmont Railroad as it reflected Confederate railroad policy during the American Civil War. The work is devoted specifically to a study of the obstacles confronting the construction of the Piedmont Railroad from its inception to its completion. Republican ideology is the basis of a case study of the diplomatic careers of John Jay and James Monroe. Both men were committed to a republican form of government but each perceived it differently. Likewise they viewed diplomacy and the role oi a diplomat differently. In establishing the republicanism oi both Jay and Monroe extensive use was made of their private and public correspondence. Through these letters it becomes apparent that Monroe's republican commitment fed his incipient paranoid personality in that he constantly looked homeward for approval. This three-page typed letter was written by attorney Kenneth E. Tilsen on January 26, 1978 regarding the nomination of Judge William Webster as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The letter provides a history of Judge Webster's past rulings involving civil rights cases of Indian people in the Dakotas, including Wounded Knee Legal Defense Committee v. FBI, Russell Means v. Dick Wilson and United States v. Dodge. Tilsen warns that Webster is unwilling to curb FBI abuses and fails to recognize First Amendment freedoms.
