Since its inception in 1996, the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College has created a culture of striving for academic excellence which is constantly shifting. At its core is the desire to educate students who learn for the sake of learning. Through small, seminar-style classes, students discuss broad questions that take them beyond the walls of the SMBHC. This thesis paints a complete narrative of Ole Miss’ honors education, starting with the Scholar’s Program in 1952 and ending in the spring semester of 2023. Throughout history, Ireland is not regarded as a champion in the area of human rights discourse, but in recent years it has found itself present in it. Pre-secularized Ireland violated human and women’s rights in institutions such as the Magdalene Laundries. Within these institutions, girls and women were subjected to various types of abuse (e.g., sexual, physical, emotional, and mental). After their time in the Laundries, they faced a life of silence and shame due to the stigma of being incarcerated in a Laundry. Jordany's paper congregates their archival research into an art practice that examines the decolonial impulse to excavate the self and produce autonomy. Se reflexiona sobre el papel social de la mujer durante el postclásico en la península de Yucatán; se utiliza como testimonio el Códice Madrid a partir de la información que ofrecen las figuras femeninas que aparecen representadas en 27 almanaques y en el cosmograma de las páginas 75-76. El porcentaje de figuras femeninas (10,15%), así como las funciones que desempeñan en las distintas escenas, indican que la mujer tiene un papel secundario, incluso pueden ser sustituidas por varones. Se muestran evidencias de un patriarcado de baja intensidad.

Se describen brevemente los antecedentes de la colección, el sitio arqueológico de proveniencia y su contexto geográfico, histórico y religioso. This thesis is a localized study that engages with the literature on Holocaust memory and memorialization in the U.S. and asks how the themes and methodologies of those scholars elucidate Holocaust memorialization and education along the U.S.-Mexico border. During 2018-2019, the U.S. witnessed migrant Caravans from Central America, Haiti, Africa, and South Asia as migrants fled violence, displacement, and extreme poverty to cross multiple borders and perilous terrain to seek refuge at the U.S.-Mexico border. During these same years, Holocaust analogies and Holocaust memory were instrumentalized by human rights advocates, descendants of survivors, and public officials who either linked migrant …

Bourbon distilling is a multi-billion-dollar industry that draws hundreds of thousands of tourists to Kentucky each year. However, the industry usually overlooks or ignores the historic and ongoing contributions of African Americans. This thesis offers distilleries methods for incorporating into their public tours the often-difficult history of free and enslaved Black participation in the bourdon industry. Change requires cooperation between corporate leaders, public historians, and relevant stakeholders to forge new narratives and retrain tour guides. Based on primary and secondary research, in-person visits to distilleries, and interviews with public historians, this thesis explores free and enslaved African American contributions to …

En este breve ensayo se presenta una pieza inédita con este tipo de decoración, la botella Balzarotti. Revisando el repertorio iconográfico de esta pieza, avanzo algunas hipótesis sobre la ocasión de las danzas representadas y los contextos de producción y utilización de este tipo de botellas.

This review of the 1776 Final Report seeks to understand why the historical establishment so quickly dismissed it as irrelevant and dangerous. It sheds light on the academic context behind the report, and comments on the state of the historical establishment in the United States. This thesis seeks to explore Russian Freemasonry in both the reign of Peter I and in theRussian Federation following the collapse of the Soviet Union, two periods where the relevant scholarship has largely fallen silent. The first chapter argues that early Masonic influences were both present at the court of Peter I and accepted by the Tsar. These intellectual trends, traceable in the libraries, social connections, and writings of individual Jacobites, would reemerge in the institutional Freemasonry in the reign of Catherine II. Employing self-study methodology, it critically examines the decision-making of the researcher as they engage in the tasks of each phase of the ADDIE model of instructional. Special attention has been paid to the intersection of prevailing pedagogical and curricular recommendations from scholars in the fields of both Holocaust education and instructional design, a practice that has not received adequate scholarly attention. This essay uncovers the systematic, intentional distortion of Holocaust history on the English-language Wikipedia, the world’s largest encyclopedia. In the last decade, a group of committed Wikipedia editors have been promoting a skewed version of history on Wikipedia, one touted by right-wing Polish nationalists, which whitewashes the role of Polish society in the Holocaust and bolsters stereotypes about Jews. Due to this group’s zealous handiwork, Wikipedia’s articles on the Holocaust in Poland minimize Polish antisemitism, exaggerate the Poles’ role in saving Jews, insinuate that most Jews supported Communism and conspired with Communists to betray Poles (Żydokomuna or Judeo–Bolshevism), blame …

Ychsma is one of the lesser-known textile styles of the central coast of Peru that date to the late periods. In this article, fragments of brocaded mantles from an Ychsma grave context, which is dated to the Late Horizon (1476-1532 A.D.) by the presence of an Inca plate, are described and illustrated. The mantles, which are characterized by certain technical features, images, colors and patterns of repetition, are used to identify further examples in museum collections. Este capítulo estudia el pigmento conocido como azul maya a partir de las fuentes históricas sobre la cultura náhuatl prehispánica, específicamente la Historia universal de las cosas de Nueva España de Bernardino de Sahagún. La obra sahaguntina posibilita la identificación del nombre del azul maya en náhuatl, al mismo tiempo que contribuye a reconstruir su simbolismo en Mesoamérica, en particular, entre los nahuas. Asimismo, el capítulo explica por qué los datos contenidos en la Historia de Sahagún sugieren que el pigmento no era producido en el Valle de México, sino que llegaba ya manufacturado a manos de los artistas nahuas. …

Cuando en 2005 se encontró la Tumba del Sacerdote Lechuza en San José de Moro (SJM), no era la primera vez que se hallaban representaciones de lechuzas entre los objetos arqueológicos recuperados en el sitio y, ni muchos menos, la primera vez que las encontrábamos en el arte mochica o el arte de la región andina en general.
