While striking, these examples of what Laura Browder calls ethnic impersonator autobiographies are by no means singular. With the barrage of bowl games these past several days one can only marvel at the willingness of sponsors and cities to pay out millions of dollars to universities to provide a few hours of entertainment during the holidays. Last year the University of Wisconsin took away $12.5M for the Big Ten from the Badger's Rose Bowl appearance. The participants at this year's Sugar Bowl, allegedly the national championship game, will take away between $11M and $13M each. Moving down the pecking order to near the bottom the payouts run to about a million dollars.

The History And Archeology Of Bethsaida, Kristen Sibold

Presidential Scholars Theses (1990 – 2006)

About one mile north of the Sea of Galilee, in the Jordan River delta, stands a twenty-acre archeological mound known as et-tell. This ancient site has been under excavation since 1987, under the direction of Israeli archaeologist Dr. Rami Arav. In 1989 the Israeli government officially recognized et-tell as the site of Bethsaida, the third most frequently-mentioned city in the New Testament behind Jerusalem and Capernaum ("Bethsaida" 1). The rich history of Bethsaida began long before the New Testament was written, and archeological discoveries provide scholars with a first-hand look at what life was like over two thousand years ago.

In the United States the history of John Nelson Darby's dispensational premillennialism is intimately tied up with the history of fundamentalism. It is difficult to talk about dispensational premillennialism in the believers church tradition in the twentieth century without making some reference to the fundamentalist movement. In fact, the two distinguishing marks of fundamentalist theology have been the doctrine of biblical inerrancy and the eschatological schema known as dispensationalism. It is thus rather surprising that historians have de-emphasized dispensational premillennialism in explaining the history of fundamentalism. I think that this is a mistake.
