Hooting: Public And Popular Discourse About Sex Discrimination, Kenneth Schneyer

In recent years there have been a surprising number of legal attacks on the restaurant chain called Hooters. These attacks have all been based, one way or another, on a claim of sex discrimination in employment. Yet the attacks vary considerably: some are based on claims of sexual harassment, some on claims by private individuals that they have been discriminated against in hiring because they are male, still others on general claims that the chain is engaged in systemic sex discrimination. This collection is composed of Marjorie Willet’s acquisitions from estate sales. Items include a 1934 letter from Margaret Brill to Clara Bush Shanklin discussing personal matters, such as her job at West Side High School, and cultural events, as well as a minstrel show hosted by “The Gammas”. The O. J. Rife pocket ledger contains accounts paid and to be paid. Items in the assorted ephemera folder include a 1958 student newsletter from Huntington’s Gallaher School, an undated letter to Stevie from Joyce and Kirk about traveling on New Year’s Day and their new home, assorted greeting cards (some from …
