From time immemorial, Wiyot people lived in permanent villages around North or Arcata Bay. Tidal flats and sloughs, bay channels, brackish marshes, creeks, and seasonal wetlands and ponds were the nature of things, all providers of food and materials. The people fished, harvested bivalves and crustaceans, gathered plant materials, and hunted waterfowl, marine mammals, and upland game. The bay and its environs sustained them.

The Pioneer Williams Families Of Smith Township, Posey County, Indiana, Steve Malone, Manuscripts & Folklife Archives

Genealogical Records

Since this book deals mainly with people who were born, and several who died, prior to the 1850 Census, there will no doubt be some factual errors due to a lack of available public records. It is hoped that any errors are minor and that it is made clear when information is based upon fact, when it is deduced from what facts are available and when a speculation is being made. While every attempt has been made to avoid errors by being as thorough as possible in this research, the results presented herein are simply the best that could be …

The Plymouth Lutheran Cemetery, Lindina Township, Juneau County, Wisconsin;, Lawrence Onsager

Faculty Publications

Cemeteries have been called outdoor museums, cultural artifacts, and written and visual records of communities. I am attempting to produce a geographically local biographical or cultural landscape study. In some cases cemeteries are the only identifiable remains of a community. It was estimated in 1908 that there were about 1,200 Norwegians from Suldal and about 500 from Upper Telemark in the settlement. Suldal is a rural district in Rogaland County in western Norway. Originally, …
