This collection includes physician’s notebooks, photographs, and newspaper clippings related to the Hallanan family. The bulk of the collection is four volumes related to Thomas B. Hallanan’s practice as a physician, including a birth records book for the years 1920 and 1921 for births near Barboursville and McComas and three physician’s notebooks tracking accounts with patients and notes about visits. The four photographs in the collection are unidentified. Newspaper clippings relate to the social and political lives of Walter S. Hallanan, Imogene Hallanan, Thomas Hallanan, and Betty Hallanan.

Papers consist primarily of diaries, newspaper clippings, correspondence, genealogies and photographs of five families: the Glanville-Carter families of St. Louis, Mo.; the Whittakers of Preble County, Ohio; Dorothy Whittaker Atkins of Huntington, West Virginia.; and the Heacocks of Bucks County, Penna.

A significant part of the collection are the diaries of Annie Heacock, a teacher at the Penn School for freed slaves in Beaufort, South Carolina, 1864-1869. Other diaries include the Civil War diary of John Whittaker, a surgeon in the 81st Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

The collection contains primarily genealogical notes on the Burnside, and Fulton families. The Burnside family especially is the largest series in the collection and takes up more than half the size. Ms. Reynolds researched and collected prominent documents of members of the Burnside family including a diary, newspaper clippings, articles, and books. Ms. Reynolds also collected an extensive amount of records of her ancestors including census records, war records, and records from the families’ origins in Great Britain. The Friedheim's of Rock Hill, South Carolina relates the history of the family through narrative, stories, anecdotes and photographs. There is a outline of the family connections at the back of the booklet. The Friedheim Brothers operated a department store in Rock Hill in 1866. The store closed in 1965. The author, C.H. Albright married one of Arnold Friedheim's granddaughters.
