The Danish Brotherhood originally branched off from the “Danish Brothers in Arms,” which was established in Omaha in 1881. Already a few years before, some local groups of “Brothers in Arms” had been established here and there, by men who had participated in the wars of 1848 and 1864. What especially tied the members together was the desire for social get-togethers and to refresh memories from the war years and to give mutual assistance in case of illness.

Soviet leaders had always taken a keen interest in workers' behavior and labor motives and sought to keep labor morality under strict state control. A complex network of values and regulations was developed for this purpose after the October Revolution of 1917. They were best articulated in the "political economy of socialism" which purported to present a scientific picture of the country's economic life. At present, two Danish Old People’s Homes (beyond those discussed in the chapters on the two church synods) have been established in the United States—one in Brooklyn and one in Chicago, which is the oldest. On March 12, 1891, a small group of women gathered in Chicago and founded an organization with the goal of establishing a home for poor Danish women. It is less understood that due to their ethnic identity that approximately, 1. 9 million Polish Catholic citizens were murdered during the Holocaust and that 1.7 million Polish non-Jews were imprisoned in concentration camps in Siberia, 2.0 million were deported as forced laborers for the German Reich and 100,000 were killed in Auschwitz. The following article is an analysis of 33 female wills (from 16th-20th centuries) found in notarial protocols at the Murcia Regional Archives (Murcia, Spain). Using a Critical Discourse Analysis framework, with special emphasis of Pierre Bourdieu’s postulates, this article studies how women handle gender, cultural, and power relations, challenge social hierarchies and, at the same time, reproduce them in their attempt to look respectable/honorable, assert their power, redefine themselves and negotiate their public image.
