We have just received this new Swiss cookbook. All the cooking experts we consulted confirm that it is excellent. The recipes are preceded by an introduction in which we learn much about the history and philosophy of Swiss cooking. The traditional Swiss meals were simple, but very carefully prepared and served. The carefulness is an excellent basis: As long as it can be preserved, the Swiss cuisine will keep its good renown, and there is not reason to doubt that this will not be the case. Founded in September 1963, the Stanford Club of Switzerland is one of the many clubs which, all over the world, bring into contact former students and scholars of Stanford University. In Switzerland, there are at present nearly seventy of them - about half being American, half Swiss - with activities extending from scientific research and work in international organizations to banking and industrial management. The paper read by Dr. A. Maissen at the New York meeting of the SAHS dealt with the interesting subject of Captain Henry Wirz . Although one of the best known Swiss participating in the Civil War, he is not listed among the subjects of the book Prominent Americans of Swiss Origin. This probably was no oversight, for he was and is a controversial figure.
