Hanna Northway Interview For The Survivors Of The Holocaust Oral History Project, Hanna Northway, Barbara Turoff

On October 9th, 1981, Barbara Turoff interviewed Hannah Northway about her life before, during, and after World War II. Northway begins her interview by talking about meeting her husband and his family and how she came to Yellow Springs, Ohio. She also talks about her early memories of when Hitler came to power and how that affected her everyday life. Towards the end of the interview Northway discusses her feelings about the United States entering the war and how her early childhood experiences may have impacted raising her children.

On July 21st, 1981, Carole Erich interviewed Dr. Felix Garfunkel about his life before, during, and after World War II. In his interview Garfunkel discusses his family history, his father's occupation, and growing up in Romania. Garfunkel later recounts the Russians and then the Germans invading his hometown and being forced into a ghetto. He later details the fleeing of the Germans and his continued education and eventual arrival in the United States.

On June 10, 1981 Carole Erich interview Dr. Jerzy Lubelfeld about his life before, during, and after World War II. In his interview Luberfeld discusses growing up in Warsaw, his parent's occupations, and his family history. Luberfeld also speaks at length about the prevailing attitudes about World War I by the Polish and Polish history in general. Later in this interview Luberfeld recounds being taken a prisoner of war by the German Army. Towards the end of his interview, Luberfeld coming to America, meeting his wife, and his life in the states.

On May 22, 1981 Cynthia Wolfe interviewed Lilly Levine about her life before, during, and after World War II. In her interview Levine begins by detailing her family history, her education, and her childhood in Frankfurt. Levine recounts her mother's death, the impact that had on her father and his job, and her family's departure for Cincinnati in 1935. Towards the end of the interview she by discusses how and when she came to Dayton and her life in the Dayton area.

On May 19th, 1981, Carole Erich interviewed Helene Erman about her life before, during, and after World War II. During the interview Mrs. Erman describes her childhood in Dortmund, Germany as well as her Polish heritage and family history. In her interview she details leaving Germany with a small group of other children her age trying to travel to Palestine. Because of a variety of laws and hostilities a direct route wasn't possible so she ended up traveling to Palestine by way of Poland, Russia, and Turkey before finally arriving at her destination. In this two part interview Cynthia Wolfe interviewed Emma Fiszlewicz about her life before, during, and after World War II. In her interview Fiszlewicz details growing up in the Minsk region and moving every so often because her father was a pharmacist helping to open new pharmacies. She later recounts how she traveled to Minsk for school only to be forced to flee in 1941 when the Russians and Germans began fighting. Fiszlewicz discusses her travels from her family home to Moscow, meeting her future husband, and her eventual arrival in the United States.

In his interview Heilbronner disccused his childhood in Stuttgart Germany, his family history, and his first business. Heilbronner also discusses what Germany was like post World War I, about leaving Germany, and about being forced into camps in France. Towards the end of the interview he discusses traveling to the United States, meeting his wife, and his eventual move to Dayton.
