In June of 1996, the Hungarian Parliament passed a law that made Imre Nagy the Martyred Prime Minister of the Hungarian Nation. Nagy had been the Prime Minister of Hungary during the ill-fated Hungarian Revolution of 1956. His refusal to step down from his post in favor of Janos Kadar after the successful Soviet military intervention that began on November 4, 1956 had led to his condemnation as a traitor and executed on June 16, 1958.

This is the first book-length study of the French Caribbean presence in Africa, and serves as a unique contribution to the field of African Diaspora and Colonial studies. By using administrative records, newspapers, and interviews, Véronique Hélénon explores the French Caribbean presence in the colonial administration in Africa before World War II. The phenomenon of this colonial administration is an especially productive site for understanding the complex relations established both within the African Diaspora and with the French colonial power.

When Sarah Palin used the term “blood libel” in response to the shooting in Arizona that left six people dead and severely injured others, including Democratic Representative Gabrielle Giffords, she stirred a controversy. To defend herself in the midst of the controversy, Palin defined the term “blood libel” very broadly as “being falsely accused of having blood on your hands.” Despite her broad definition, blood libel is a term that refers very specifically to the historical accusation that Jews killed Christian children to obtain their blood.
