A personal coming-of-age story made with real film reel about a crew of wildly diverse kids from the suburbs of New York City in the 1970's who had nothing in common but skateboarding yet forged lifelong friendships.

The Ethics Bowl is soon to be a required seminar for students taking MDOCS and Media & Film Studies production courses. This training session tackled issues facing today's non-fiction storytellers. The session included lectures by faculty members Scott Mulligan, Beck Krefting (Media & Film Studies), and Jordana Dym (MDOCS) providing tips followed by an activity in which attendees grappled with a real-world cases to discuss solutions.

Bill Daniel, artist, photographer, documentary and Guggenheim Fellow (2008) visited MDOCS on November 3-4, 2015. Who is Bozo Texino? chronicles the search for the source of a ubiquitous and mythic rail graffiti— a simple sketch of a character with an infinity-shaped hat and the scrawled moniker, “Bozo Texino”— a drawing seen on railcars for over 80 years. Daniel’s gritty black and white film uncovers a secret society and it’s underground universe of hobo and railworker graffiti, and includes interviews with legendary boxcar artists Colossus of Roads, Coaltrain, Herby, and The Rambler.

Skidmore College Alum John Beckman, '94 (Theater/Design, Art History) delivered a talk on February 18, 2015 at 5:30pm in Davis Auditorium, Experiential Storytelling and Exhibit Design.

John Beckman is Director of Exhibit Design & Development, Museum of Science & Industry (Chicago). Mary Odekon (Professor of Physics) and Ray Giguere (Professor of Chemistry) who had helped curate exhibitions at the Tang Museum, provided commentary.
