Cultural trauma occurs when members of a collectivity feel they have been subjected to a horrendous event that leaves indelible marks upon their group consciousness, marking their memories forever and changing their future identity in fundamental and irrevocable ways. By constructing cultural traumas, social groups, national societies, and sometimes even entire civilizations, not only cognitively identify the existence and source of human suffering, but may also take on board some significant moral responsibility for it. The concept of female beauty in the Pre-Qin period underwent a great historical change from the appreciation of "the ugly" to that of "the beautiful." The image of beautiful females in the prehistoric age was characteristically "ugly and muscular," highlighting the reproductive function and death function of the Great Mother, and could be argued to be the embodiment of the victory of "the mother principle." Hsia Chih-tsing's concept of literary criticism in his History of Modern Chinese Fiction is constructed around a group of concepts centered round moral concerns and supplemented with indirect comment and personality integrity. However, when these criticism are put into practice, personality integrity often than not takes precedence over the other concepts and sways Hsia's objectivity in evaluating literary works. The paper argues that Hsia had the edge of literary critic but was not sharp enough to be a literary theorist, although his achievements have been the most fortunate contribution to the study of modern Chinese literature.

邁入二十世紀九〇年代，香港正式面對回歸中國的過渡期，並與全球一起面對二十世紀末的到來。這個時期的香港，不單充滿了過渡期的焦慮，還有全球化的衝擊，以及面對回歸不久便來臨的世紀末。九十年代的複雜語境，使得這時期的香港文學蘊含了豐富多彩的價值，十分值得關注。

文學中的空間，無論是對於敍述者或是讀者都起著重要的作用。然而，過往的研究中，時間敍事往往成爲研究的焦點，文學中的空間研究卻寥寥可數。在此情況下，實在有必要對文學中的空間多加關注。當代西方地理學家大衛‧哈維（David Harvey）肯定了「空間」研究的價值 ——「空間」可謂當今文學研究中的關鍵詞。他更提出：「掌握空間作爲一個關鍵詞的要點，是要辨認出這個概念如何更好的整合到既有的社會、文學和文化後設理論中，以及效果爲何。」

本論文欲從香港九〇年代的語境（九七回歸、全球化等）開始，梳理當時備受關注的主題（九七、女性、都市異化）。進而以「房子」作爲視角，透過分析香港九○年代的短篇小説，發掘「房子」此空間在不同主題中的意義，以及文學作品如何以「房子」此空間來敍述主題且敍述了主題的什麽面向。本論文試圖以「房子」爲例，嘗試將「空間」概念整合到文學分析中，發掘空間在文學中的價值。

張彝宣，一名大復，明末清初戲曲作家。現存九部傳奇，包括：《醉菩提》、《海潮音》、《釣魚船》、《吉祥兆》、《金剛鳳》、《讀書聲》、《快活三》、《紫瓊瑤》和《雙福壽》。是次研究期望達到兩個目標，一是評定張彝宣劇作的文學價值，二是衡量張彝宣劇作的戲臺演出價值。本文研究方法包括：排場關目分析、喜劇元素分析、行當角色分析、情節編排分析、主題思想分析等。

論文分七章：第一章為研究概況。第二章至第六章分論劇作。第二章討論《紫瓊瑤》與《雙福壽》的排場藝術，分兩部份：第一部份分析單齣排場。第二部份討論腳色人物的調配、關目情節與劇本體製的設計乃至內場與外場的配合。第三章討論《快活三》與《讀書聲》的民間娛樂色彩，分四層面：一、「娛樂」主旨、二、喜劇人物塑造、三、關目技巧、四、插科打諢的喜劇效果。第四章：《海潮音》與《醉菩提》佛教人物的臺上示現，包括妙善觀音與濟公和尚的形象改造，重要的是分析「因緣果報應」和「通神」的主題思想及其舞臺效應和濟公的玩世因緣。第五章討論《吉祥兆》與《金剛鳳》的敘事程式。第六章討論《釣魚船》對《西遊記》的改編及其意義，特別研究劉全夫妻之恩情重義及其意義。第七章是總結。

His debate with Rene Wellek in the 1930s on "literature vs. philosophy" was a proof to his aversion to rigid theory and abstraction. The poetic theory of Yu Yan, a Ci-poetry theorist from the Ming Dynasty, is mainly presented in his Commentaries on Ci-Poetry from Yuan Garden, in which he claimed that shi-poetry, ci-poetry and qu-poetry had the same origin with ci-poetry as an indispensable developmental phase in literature along the musical aspect. The majority of Chinese words are compounds. Among compounds, there is a special kind of compounds. It is made up of two antonymous morphemes. The antonymous compounds undergo functional shift. In 40% percent of the cases, the compounds have different word classes from the morphemes. The thesis investigated how the functional shift happens and why it happens.

Based on the critique of the definitions of antonymous compounds used in others’ studies, the thesis comes up with a broad definition. With the help of primary sources such as dictionaries, secondary sources, and the definition, the thesis collects 292 antonymous compounds.

In her article "Women's Wartime Life Writing in Early Twentieth-Century China" Li Guo discusses military diaries, prison memoirs, and autobiographical reportages. These documents offer rich insights into the political endeavors and military mobility of women. Guo analyzes Bingying Xie's 1928 war diary about the Chinese nationalists' northern expedition, Langi Hu's 1937 book about anti-Japanese activism, and Lang Bai's 1939 reportage about the Sino-Japanese War and argues that these texts allow women to reconfigure the discourse of nation through experimental life writing in order to develop the genre with tales of valor, hope, struggle, and heroism. 劉台拱（1751-1805），字端臨，揚州寶應人，清乾嘉時期著名學者。早年習治理學，後與汪中、王念孫、段玉裁等人交遊論學，確立樸學治經方向，成為揚州學派中堅人物。本文擇取端臨學術為研究對象，論文內容計有以下數端：一、後世學者所記端臨傳世著述，或卷書有異，或篇名不同。其《儀禮補疏》為畢生精力所萃，然終未見成書。故考端臨著述之刊刻過程及著寫《儀禮補疏》之始末；二、端臨所著《論語駢枝》世譽精闢，且對劉寳楠、恭冕父子《論語正義》有直接影響。本文將詳論此書，以窺端臨論語學之要義、經學之梗概；三、端臨於經史百家，皆有涉獵，僅憑《駢枝》，無法盡見其學術大體。故又擇《經傳小記》、《荀子補注》等卷進行考證，以論端臨禮學、小學、史學、理學中的考據、義理面貌；四、誦讀文章，須知人論世。本文將以文獻史料為基礎，尤重書信、文集，敘述乾嘉時期不同學術陣營之學者（如汪中、翁方綱、章學誠等）與端臨交往論學之經過，從而考察端臨學術歷程之轉變與發展；五、揚州寶應乃清初理學重鎮，曾出朱澤澐、王懋竑等朱子學大家。端臨受家學及鄉學薰陶，精於理學。後受京城漢學氛圍影響，始重考據。舊說多以棄宋就漢為論，總結其學。然端臨對漢學、宋學之態度，實非如此簡單，值得考辨；六、乾嘉時期學術論辯、漢宋之爭等議題，受到以往學術界重視。本文將以端臨個案作為切入點，從此一未為關注之新視角，對乾嘉學術思想作出區別以往之詮釋。

李商隱詩歌的語言風格研究 : 以詠物詩為重心, Ka Chun Wu

本文以李商隱詠物詩作研究對象，探討詩中的語言風格。從聲母、聲調、詞彙三方面，論述其詠物詩之語言特色如何形成義山詩的風格。語言是人類溝通的工具。年代愈遠，我們愈難分辨不同文學作品的差異。文藝上的感受還比較容易理出頭緒，但語言運用上，如果沒有深入研究，讀者難以僅憑閱讀便確知古典作家的語用習慣。本文分析詩中音韻特色時，借鑑語言風格學的方法，統計李商隱的語用習慣。

根據本文的分析，可以確知有以下幾項結果﹕在音韻上，李商隱詠物詩偏好用牙音與喉音字，與他徘徊低吟，纏綿綺艷的詩風有一定的關係。李商隱有刻意使用頭韻的效果來加強詩歌的韻律美感。總體而言，頭韻效果都可以加深讀者對詩句的印象，而部分頭韻用例亦有其他不同的文學功能，可分四類﹕（一）襯托，（二）借聲擬情，（三）使詩的語音結構與語義結構不同，（四）突顯題旨。聲調上，義山詠物詩喜在五言對句第三字作入聲，形成「頓挫」的音韻風格。詞彙上，義山詠物詩的季節詞彙可以創造出具體化的抒情空間，幫助李商隱抒發情感。當他在詩歌上點明時節，其情感一般是限定在某一類特殊的情感上，如﹕傷別、歸思。最後，李商隱詠物詩的季節詞彙多為偏正詞組，形成其詩設色穠麗的風格特點。

The discussion of “identity” in current scholarship on modern Chinese literature is mostly centered on the political dynamics between national, cultural, and gender identity. Contemporary Chinese language novels from late 1990s to the present, however, seem to show a sense of confusion and disorientation towards one’s existence in the rapidly changing society. Among the works that address individual’s existential crisis, self-reflexive novels are particularly intriguing as they reveal a strong sense of self-doubt on part of the author, and in particular, towards one’s role as a writer in contemporary society. In 1963, Japan passed the New Residential Town Development Act prompting the construction of publicly constructed large-scale residential satellite towns across the nation in response to a severe housing crisis. Addressing two case studies, Senri New Town near Osaka and Tama New Town outside of Tokyo, this thesis examines the historical and social context of the design and construction of postwar new towns by tracing the institutional, intellectual, and architectural histories that shaped their urban form. The paper proposes a novel classification and analysis of the V-DE construction in Mandarin Chinese. On this proposal, the V-DE construction is divided into two types, predicative and non-predicative. The predicative type can be further divided into entity-predicative V-DE constructions and eventuality-predicative V-DE constructions. With respect to the analysis of the V-DE construction, the paper identifies four different structures.
