My capstone project takes the form of a website, accessible at the URL above. The site features nine different journalistic pieces reported and produced over the course of the past year, all centered on the themes of robotics and cutting-edge DIY communities. I worked in several different media, from traditional print to audio to infographics. Though this project officially falls under the category of magazine journalism, my capstone also had a heavy technical component associated with creating the website and writing scripts to collect and visualize data.

REVEL Magazine is a fashion-and-beauty lifestyle magazine for undergraduate and post-graduate women. This is the May 2015 launch issue focusing on materials from the Spring/Summer 2015 Ready To Wear collections. REVEL was designed and created in Adobe InDesign (with aid from Adobe Photoshop) originally for print, but is circulated online via ISSUU, a digital media platform that allows for digital magazine viewing in a print-like format. Henry David Thoreau, venerated author and philosopher, concluded his novel Walden with the line, "It is not worth the while to go round the world to count the cats in Zanzibar." Thoreau's sentiment was that a change of soul or purpose is more important than a change of scenery.

This collection of essays seeks to explore the need for redemption as a necessary element of the Human Condition, by exploring my experiences as a child, adolescent, teen, and adult. babel is a collection of nonfiction essays in which I explore a female twenty-something’s crossdimensional dilemma of spirituality, racism, art, and love in the wake of Bible-belt hipsterdom. “The Bedroom and the Barnyard: Zoomorphic Lust Through Territory, Procedure, and Shelter in ‘The Miller’s Tale’” is an academic endeavor that takes Chaucer’s zoomorphic metaphors and similes and analyzes them in a sense that reveals the chaos of what is human and what is animal tendency. The academic work is expressed in the adjunct creative project, Haunchebones, a 10-minute drama that echoes the tale and its zoomorphic influences, while presenting the content in a stylized play influenced by Theatre of the Absurd and artwork from the medieval and early renaissance period.

We humans —across time, cultures, and geography— struggle with the awareness of our own mortality. Rather than accept finitude, we embrace ideas of boundlessness and perpetuity, and perceive ourselves as beings in constant motion, as travelers, in life as well as in death. We rely on metaphors of inner and outer journey to express life challenges and opportunities, and envision our deceased to be similarly en route: crossing over, passing on, ascending or descending, and, ultimately —hopefully— transcending to some higher realm.
