Following in the footsteps of writers Mary Karr, Joan Didion, Russell Baker, and many others, Kelly Rose writes about her childhood, marriage, and subsequent divorce from a New Orleans journalist. Her writing is broken down into various sections, which address her writing influences, her troubled relationship with her mother and her complicated divorce. Finally, the author discusses how these experiences have shaped her writing today.

Moving beyond the author’s identity once forged in the family and social expectations of his childhood, a twenty-‐one year old author weaves a memoir with creative twists that revolves around the theme of coming of age, particularly acceptance of self. Using the second person point of view, the memoir beguiles readers to make the story theirs as well. The preface narrates reasons for composing a memoir, elaborating on how simple, everyday stories become important in creating cohesiveness among different stages of change and growth. The afterword analyzes literary influences that contributed to the author’s style of creative non-fiction and discusses …

In this project the author explored some ways in which one can create a piece of public writing. The author explored questions about the following: How does one write articles in general? What is necessary to include in writing about a specific topic of one's interest? How are articles published? The author researched these questions and those that were evoked in the process. Using the findings from this research, several examples of garden columns were created.

From 1849 to 1850, Calista Cummings edited and published Akron's first literary magazine, The Akron Offering. At the time, Akron was a booming canal town on the verge of even greater prosperity. Reborn in Adversity describes the journey one young girl makes as she seeks to self-actualize amidst multiple risk factors or packages. Raised in an abusive, hypocritical, and assaultive family, the author is faced with crisis after crises along each milestone of life. Once she leaves her abusive family, the risks and crises multiply in magnitude and number. In this journey she exhibits multiple resiliency traits that allow at risk children to rebound from adversity.
