The Stories of Environmental Ethicists in Word and Image captures the spirit of three local people: John B. Cobb, Jr., Rosemary Radford Ruether, and Dean Freudenberger. As teachers, writers, activists, and members of the progressive retirement community Pilgrim Place, they’ve had a significant influence on the global environmental movement. The photographs and small essays in this project highlight who they are and what they’ve done, and how they continue to shape contemporary intellectual discourse. This thesis layers memoir and research in a frank and often funny contemplation of midlife. It documents the process of reviewing the first half of my life in order to prepare for and embrace the second half. Included is a look at various views of the stages of life, a glimpse at midlife crisis, and a suggested course of action to help others pass successfully through this complicated transition.

This thesis examines a local Little Rock community, anchored by its 99-year-old matriarch, Mary Stafford. Mary lives on her, and her lifestyle is dependent on a network of neighbors that help care and provide for her daily needs. This network exists because Mary has touched the lives of those around her so deeply, that now in her senior years, she has enough assistance to maintain an independent lifestyle in her home. With strong themes of sacrifice and motherhood, told through the narrator's own life experiences combined with Mary's, this project explores how a community impacts the lives of its members. …

This paper is a collection of my personal experiences with the Welsh culture, both as a celebration of heritage in America and as a way of life in Wales. Using my family’s ancestral link to Wales as a narrative base, I trace the connections between Wales and America over the past century and look closely at how those ties have changed over time. The piece focuses on five location-based experiences—two in America and three in Wales—that each changed the way I interpret Welsh culture as a fifth-generation Welsh-American.
