The Promethean

During our first meeting, I let the staff know my expectations for the 2008-2009 Promethean edition. Like previous years, I imagined fresh, bold writing and raw talent. With the same inspiration, I imagined a bolder journal; a journal with power and authenticity; a journal that would forever be memorable for the quality, quantity and impression. The Promethean staff grounded these ideas, while the contributors shaped them. I've never felt prouder of The Promethean. Graduating and leaving the position to Kristine never scared me; I knew we had the same visions, and I give all the credit to her.

(First Paragraph) Hugh Sebag-Montefiore correctly notes that multitudes of books already have been written about the evacuation of the British and French troops from Dunkirk in May and June 1940. He argues, however, that these accounts generally have neglected the crucial role of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) in making this escape possible. He agrees that great credit must go to Adm. Bertram Ramsay, the Royal Navy, and almost one thousand small boat owners who actually moved the beleaguered troops from France to England. Sexual assault is widespread throughout America; unfortunately, because this crime breeds shame in its victims, most sexual assault victims never tell anyone. But, as Confessional writing became popularized in contemporary society and more victims felt the need and space to speak out, the rape autobiography developed as an essential tool in understanding the epidemic of sexual violence and the ways in which victims internalize their experiences.

Since sexual assault is a societal problem, and narratives arc a tool for victims to express themselves and expose the sexual violence within a society, rape narratives should be analyzed as windows into American's …

The Present Giver and Other Stories on Human Connections is a collection of seven short stories dealing with individuals that struggle to connect to another person. However, the stories also explore that these characters still feel the need to connect, stories very indicative of my own struggles with apathy and relationships. The critical analysis takes on a creative non-fiction approach as a way to show my development as a writer and how these stories relate to what I've learned through the years from my love of reading.

In 2004, two articles in the Journal of Applied Communication Research (Ashcraft & Tretheway, 2004; Goodall, 2004) celebrated the merits of auto- and narrative ethnography, methods of research grounded in lived experience and evocative modes of representation that seek to engage readers emotionally, aesthetically, ethically, and politically. Despite these and other persuasive calls for auto- and narrative ethnographic works, few have been published in communication journals. More than four years ago, JACR offered readers arguments for this kind of scholarship, yet no full-length autoethnography appeared in its pages—until now. Body And Bulimia Revisited: Reflections On "A Secret Life", Lisa M. Tillmann Ph.D.

In 1996, the author published “A Secret Life in a Culture of Thinness: Reflections on Body, Food, and Bulimia” (Tillmann-Healy, 1996), an account of her struggle with binging and purging from ages 15 to 25. She came to understand bulimia as a communicative act, expressing fear, anxiety, and grief. From 25 to 35, her recovery from bulimia involved learning to “purge” emotion through other forms of communication (e.g., dialogue, writing, and teaching). At 35, separation and divorce pose the greatest challenge to the author’s 10-year recovery, yet she does not return to bulimic expression. This article invites readers to sense …
