She also likes to dabble in realistic fiction, science fiction, and horror. Besides reading and writing, Elena loves doing escape rooms with friends and family, embroidering, and trap shooting. She has a fantasy trilogy in the works and hopes to publish the first book in the next few years

This essay investigates how the structural expectations and narrative conventions restrict contemporary creative writing. This work seeks to imagine how, in order to work towards the creation of an anti-racist creative space, a classroom may work without and against the limits set by writing and language conventions. Blending academic research, sample student work, and narrative anecdotes, this essay examines the ways in which storytelling can be used to uplift young writing voices.

My capstone project, Batter, is a collection of creative writing pieces, consisting of short stories, flash fiction, and two creative nonfiction essays. I decided to do a portfolio because creative writing is simply what I enjoy the most and have been intrigued by since I took my first fiction writing class at Kennesaw State University. Composing stories, imagining how characters could behave believably, their problems and their solutions, all of it combined gives me a sense of creative determination that I have not found in any other area of work or craft. Symposium of Student Scholars

As the intersection of race and gender is a feat for the strong Black man and strong Black woman, the double edged sword is the deterioration of mental health overlooked by the need to maintain the guise of perfection. The social disadvantages of this intersection include a myriad of traumas such as financial stability, violence and oppression, and the internal stigma of judgment, which causes Black men and Women to delay or go undiagnosed for mental health disorders.
