Interview With Robert Wrigley, Matthew Del Busto

Manuscripts

Robert Wrigley is the author of numerous collections of poetry, most recently Anatomy of Melancholy & Other Poems (2013), which won him the Pacific Northwest Book Award. During his visit to Butler, Wrigley sat down to talk with Manuscripts staff member Matt Del Busto about his most recent collection, titled after Robert Burton’s The Anatomy of Melancholy, written almost 400 years prior. They discussed the power of poetry and melancholy in our lives. In 2016, Wrigley retired from a forty-year teaching career and currently lives in Idaho “in the woods on the side of a mountain” with his wife.

Both Wesley Sun and his brother (Brad Sun) were born and raised in Orlando, Florida, by their parents who are Chinese immigrants from Malaysia. Wesley serves as the Director of Field Education and Community Engagement at the University of Chicago Divinity School and is a volunteer chaplain at Cook County Jail. Betta Kurumba is an indigenous (also known as Adivasi / tribal) community living in the Gudalur block of Nilgiris district, Tamil Nadu, India. This district is part of the Western Ghats mountain range that runs parallel to the Western Coast of India. It is an anthropological research on a hamlet, Koodamoola, located inside a tea and coffee plantation, the Golden Cloud Estate (pseudonym). Few years ago, the owner (under legal contestation) of this plantation attempted to enforce a ban on rearing of livestock arbitrarily. First-Gen Voices: Creative and Critical Narratives on the First-Generation College Experience

The city of Tijuana, Mexico has become a second home to many LMU students through programs like De Colores, which introduce students to issues of immigration, poverty, and education. The city varies from L.A.-style skyscrapers and paved roads to shacks along dirt paths. This image shows some of the diversity and growth of the city as it continues to develop, and provides a different perspective on the crowded communities that make up Tijuana.
