Description of the Papers: The Georgia Shaw Prescott Papers are contained within 3 series. The first series consists of numerous songs and poems all written by her, as well as personal notes and edits of her work. The second series contains sheet music, song lyrics, and essays. The third and final series is comprised of artwork by Ruth Scott (a local artist who collaborated with Georgia Shaw Prescott), newspaper clippings, business letters, and personal letters, in addition to a collection of miscellaneous papers whose purpose is not quite clear. The only known works within this collection that were ever published …

Cacophony: Stories, Michael J. Goodwin

Cacophony: Stories was written over three years in the Center for Writers at the University of Southern Mississippi. The collection depicts middle-class characters disconnected from relationships, careers, and family. Each story explores disillusioned characters forced to confront a major moment in their lives from a bleak setting. Characters find varying degrees of success in forging an identity in the face of flawed existence. This existence lingers, producing an apathetic lifestyle where characters must act. These characters act passively through the narrative and the collection sees them forced to break away from their malaise. The collection aims to explore austere suburban …

Póliza: A Bilingual Anthology Of Postmodern Peninsular Spanish Women Poets, Jacqueline Osborn

Within this project I endeavor to translate a series of poems from seven postmodern female Spanish poets, exploring the challenges and idiosyncrasies of not only the migration between languages, but those specifically between Spanish and English as well as those particular to poetry translation. Of course, there are inherent limits to this process. Regarding the differences between English and Spanish, such difficulties as the presence of naturally reflexive verbs, neutral pronouns, more efficient nominalization of adjectives, and the greater presence of the subjunctive tense in Spanish arise.
