This is a poetry collection divided into two parts. “North Street” is a sequence of poems that investigates the intersection of solitude and fear. “The Tinder Poems or Encounters of Another Kind” is a sequence that uses sexual experiences as a catalyst to explore the collision of power, love, and cultural expectation.

I Live Peacefully in a Video Game World occupies impersonal or passive forums such as comments sections, strategy guides, and video game patch notes in order to investigate the intimacy found within them. While conceptual poets have long explored hyper-contemporary communication ranging from spam emails to online reviews for Hollywood movies, these conceptual poets have often allothemselves to be constrained by their devotion to faithfully transcribing documents. The sections of this manuscript, then, are creative reimaginings of Youtube comments sections, strategy guides, and video game patch notes instead of precise transcriptions. There’s a popular bumper sticker in some areas that reads: “God said it, I believe it, that settles it.” It is sometimes paired with another one: “Bibles that are falling apart usually belong to people that aren’t.” The two combine to suggest an approach to reading and religion that are at the core of my argument in this chapter: they suggest that religious reading is fundamentally anti-interpretive; that reading the Bible or other religious texts provides direct access to truth. Excerpt: "Come Back is a beautifully written novel, manifesting Wiebe's immense skill with the written word. Those unfamiliar with Wiebe's style might find Come Back a more difficult read; the lack of a straightforward narrative and the intertwining of various voices may cause too much dissonance for some readers. Yet, as a two time winner of Canada's Governor General's Award (in 1973 and 1994), Wiebe clearly understands his craft, and his place in English letters has already been well established. Once writers complete a first draft, they are often encouraged to evaluate their writing and prioritize what to revise. Yet, this process can be both daunting and difficult. This study looks at how students used a semantic concept mapping tool to re-present the content and organization of their initial draft of an informational text. We examine the processes of students at two different schools as they remediated their own texts and how those processes impacted the development of their rhetorical, conceptual, and communicative capacities. Our analysis suggests that students creating visualizations of their completed first drafts scaffolded self-evaluation. The mapping …
