The Language of Trees is a poetry collection based on a series of walks, and rooted in the experience of place on a small island off the west coast of Canada. Mattathias' Other Son: The Story Of The Maccabean Revolt (A Novel), Ameliah E. Given

In Jewish primary and secondary literature regarding the Maccabean Revolt, Judas, the son of the man who began the revolt, is depicted as a warrior of epic proportions. Despite a Seleucid king’s attempt to squelch out Jewish practices, Judas propelled the people to religious freedom through his military strategy and might. After his untimely death in battle, his younger brother Jonathan finally succeeded in gaining political freedom for the Jewish people. Throughout his lifetime, Jonathan’s feats of valor rivaled, if not surpassed those of his brother Judas. Despite this, Jonathan’s story and life are not given the attention they deserve. …

From 1849 to 1850, Calista Cummings edited and published Akron's first literary magazine, The Akron Offering. At the time, Akron was a booming canal town on the verge of even greater prosperity. Ahead lies four rough chapters of a World War I fiction novel I have started earlier this semester as part of an ongoing English Honors Thesis project. The following pages represent an inkling of the research I have undertaken to start this project, but more importantly, they record the beginnings of my continual development in understanding that fiction is truly based around character. Lenn never considered herself one of the foreigners in Bangkok. She believed that she was different from her privileged peers at international schools, the posse of multinational corporation workers and the unwitting tourists with a colonial mindset. But when she meets Jon Hayes Wichasak, a wandering luk khrueng, her conviction starts to crumble. She begins to question her motives behind returning to Bangkok and her desire for intimacy. Set on the road that stretches from the Thai-Cambodian border to the Chao Praya River, the novella explores expatriation in the twenty-first century.
