This thesis is a memoir relating the events, characters and situations the author encountered during the adolescent years of twelve to seventeen. Relying on her memories and memories of family members, the author has attempted to tell the story as faithfully as possible. Intermingled with the story are reflections of emotional, physical, and verbal abuse. Last names have been withheld in order to protect identities of those concerned.

This study analyzes digital poetry from a cyborg perspective, showing how its multiple material aspects are foregrounded to facilitate the reader's performance of poems. It explores the poetic functions, possibilities, and constraints of the medium of digital poetry through the application of Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed, comparisons with print methods of conveying meaning, and close readings of digital poems. The application of Theatre of the Oppressed as a framework also allows for the study of the power relationships involved in performing digital poetry and in using digital technology as a whole, while showing digital poetry to be …

This collection explores the idea of familiarizing the strange, reacquainting oneself with wonder, and how the use of humor can create evocative poetry. The collection aims to use humor as a mechanism to deal with subject matter such as family relationships, loneliness, alienation and death. Linear and circular narrative were used to create poems that act as smaller stories that come together to create a timeline of stories arranged from birth, to mid-life, to death.

Yearn is a collection of poems that contains mythical elements, many of which surround the fall from innocence. Often this fall is due to an unfulfilling relationship with a mother figure. Despite such trials, the author also includes dream poems, which show that through endurance, forgiveness, and unconditional love, one can rise back up to purity again.

The six stories collected in A World for Wanters deal primarily with loneliness and isolation, usually that which accompanies a sudden or traumatic life change, as well as the identity crises that arise when an individual's sense of his place in society is disrupted. Each of these stories, narrated in the first person by a young male protagonist, explores the struggle to reconcile a worldview in which alienation is ordinary and unavoidable with the desire to love and be loved by others.

Benefit Road is a work of realistic fiction composed of six short stories. Each protagonist is an individual in contemporary society, living an isolated existence, while struggling to connect with others and construct moral order out of chaos. Stone Cold Secrets is a novel about a family that struggles to forgive each other for the secrets they have kept from one another. The story is based on a woman who gave away or sold her children after birth. The siblings meet each other as young adults and they try very hard to turn their dysfunctional family into a loving, caring family. Olivia, the oldest child, spearheads the movement to begin a family reunion, but first secrets will be revealed before the reunion can take place.

A proposal for a creative non-fiction book using original family letters and other documents brought to light for the first time. The narrative traces the lives and losses of the author's relatives, John Herbert Claiborne, M.D., and Sarah Joseph Alston Claiborne, from 1852 to 1868 in Petersburg, Virginia. This work tells the story of their courtship, marriage, separation during the Civil War, and life during early Reconstruction. The point-of-view is that of "Joe's" perspective (as everyone called Sarah).
