Songs From Imerina: A Creative Study Of The Evolving Craft Of Merina Hainteny In Madagascar, Elly Bookman

I don’t know much about hainteny. It’s an elusive form to me still, for by nature it’s only a foggy representation of a culture that I can never truly be a part of. And anyway, even many members of the Malagasy population are uncertain of the plethora of possible meanings behind this literature, as I was told on more than one occasion when I discussed my plans to study these mysterious verses.

Writing The World: Ursula K. Le Guin And Margaret Atwood’S Literary Contributions To Ecofeminism, Melissa Messer
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
Along with the philosophical writings of ecofeminism’s greatest proponents and critics, the growth of ecofeminist philosophy has relied heavily on fiction writers. The term ecofeminism was coined in 1975, and the following year ecofeminism found fertile ground for exploration and growth in March Peircy’s science fiction novel, Woman on the Edge of Time (1976). The social, academic, and literary trends leading up to the emergence of ecofeminism, however, began well before 1975. Both Ursula K. Le Guin and Margaret Atwood are speculative fiction authors whose work before and after 1975 examines important ecofeminist topics and contributes to the growth of …

No One's Devil Dog is a collection of stories which celebrate the muddling journeys of five lonely souls. In "Karaoke Night," Stanley means to confess his love to Sarah, "blond and lovely, perfect vision of a barmaid angel," but before he can, he must sing a Johnny Cash duet with a massive blind shot-putter and negotiate the hazy interior of a crowded Nova Scotia pub. In "Lo Siento," Evan, a graduate student, surly radical, and veteran of the WTO riots in Seattle, sees a simple errand become a bibulous descent into the excess and carnival night life of a Midwestern …

A short story by Richard Tenorio of sibling love and sacrificed ambition, which is set in Roxbury, traditionally the twentieth-century home territory for blacks in Boston. Today, Roxbury is poised on the lip of gentrification, and blacks in Boston are on the move again, seeking home and security and belonging.

Nexus is a magazine that began as an insert in the Wright State Guardian student newspaper in 1965 and has since been published semi-regularly. It began only accepting creative writing, but has since expanded to include illustrations, photography and other non-written art forms. Today, it is published in a digital format and accepts submissions from around the country, though it maintains its commitment to the Wright State Community.
