Risd Paper October 13, 1969, Students Of Risd, Risd Archives

This student-run weekly newspaper was known simply as R.I.S.D., or RISD Paper. The RISD Paper ran through the late 1960s and into the 1970s. The issue of October 13, 1969 included articles about the plight of farm workers and the California Grape Boycott. There was a short piece by John Torres, RISD sculpture faculty about Black art. Student activism and a calendar for the moratorium events was also included. A calendar of events for RISD students was also in this issue.

The Designer's News was a student-run weekly newspaper published in the late 1960s. The issue of May 19-25, 1969 featured an article about the RISD Landscape Architecture department's study to save Block Island, RI. There also was an interview with John Torres about summer programs at RISD and at a school in Vermont, and an article about a RISD photo student who taught local pre-teens about photography. Also included was an article about the Rhode Island Art Festival and some RISD students who were volunteering their time to help.

The Designer was a student newspaper published in 1942. Three issues remain today. The first two issues are written by typewriter on loose sheaves of paper. The issue of May 12-18, 1969 included articles about Apparel Design's annual show Collection 1969, and an article about Man and his Technology, a seminar that was attended by 250 people. There was a brief article about racial troubles at Hope High School in Providence that was from a publication called EXTRA. Comics, ads, letters and art exhibits were also mentioned.

The issue of May 5, 1969 is the first issue and features an introduction to the publication, along with articles on COLAB II, a new student show opening at Carr House, a speech given by union organizer Carl Braden, and an alumni seminar event on "art and censorship."

Blockprint was a student magazine published throughout the 1950s-60s. The November 4, 1968 issue contains only advertisements, a brief events calendar, and an editorial from Blockprint Editor-In-Chief Roy Furman complaining that due to the Student Council reducing funding for Blockprint, they would no longer be able to afford to put out a regular length newspaper. This may be the final issue of Blockprint ever printed.

The October 28, 1968 issue features articles on the proposal to boycott California grapes, an upcoming Howard Zinn lecture in Memorial Hall, the upcoming Presidential election, the decline of South Main Street, Take-A-Break Weekend, a new RISD musem exhibition on Renaissance art, and other events and notices.
