In May 1994, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) conducted extensive test excavations at archeological site 41RK195. Located in the path of proposed Loop 571 around Henderson, the site had already been seriously impacted by a sand quarrying operation. Lying atop a large hill near the confluence of Bromley Creek and Flanigan Branch, site 41RK195, now almost totally destroyed, is believed to have been a major site of the region.
