In the mainstream historical narrative of American social justice movements and organizing, African-American women and their work have too often been marginalized and forgotten, despite the crucial work that they have done.This is a study of African-American Women's social networks and African-American women committed to social change. This study focuses on the lives and works of Mary Church Terrell, Josephine St. Pierre Ruffin, Mary McLeod Bethune, and Dorothy I. Height, and their respective work with the National Association of Colored Womens Club and National Council of Negro Women.
