Jerome Davis, head of the Young Men’s Christian Association War Prisoner Aid program, was a devout Congregationalist dedicated to providing for the basic sport and recreation endeavours of German Prisoners of War interned in Canadian POW camps during the Second World War. Having worked with German Prisoners of War in Russia during the First World War, Davis firmly believed that WWII Allies the world over needed to change their generally antagonistic point of view towards German POWs, indeed, a point of view that required “moral revisionism.” Davis believed that the vilification and demeaning status of German POWs was not only …

Antoinette Pezet was born in New York April 23, 1937 as William Anthony Pezet. She recognized she was bisexual in her early teens. Her family was accepting of her sexuality very early on. Before enlisted in the military in her early twenties, she married her first wife, Helga. Due to mental health issues, Helga and Antoinette divorced. Antoinette then married her second wife, Emily, and went on to have two children.

It was not until Antoinette was divorced from Emily that she started dressing as a woman. In her early fifties she had a conversation with Jean Vermette that first …

“Muscular Christianity” is a scholarly term that is used to define the general view of Christians in Europe and the United States that arose in the 1800s toward sport involvement. Muscular Christian beliefs have progressed throughout the past century and are still influential in the modern world. This thesis seeks to outline the historic progression of muscular Christian beliefs and practices and then explores similarities and differences of modern muscular Christian beliefs with its historic positions. It concludes with a future perspective on the globalization of muscular Christianity and provides suggestions for proper Christian attitudes toward sport.

D.L. Moody was 24 when the Civil War began. Throughout the conflict, he played a complex role that traversed many different settings. He ministered to wounded soldiers on several major battlefields, to Union recruits in a training camp outside Chicago, and even to Confederate prisoners-of-war. Despite all this unique wartime activity, Moody maintained his urban ministry in Chicago and somehow found time to get married. Except for brief chapters in a handful of biographies, historians have produced little work on this phase in Moody’s life. Despite the voluminous historical literature concerning American missionary efforts in the Middle East during the 19^th and early 20^th centuries, the international work of the Young Men’s Christian Association has figured only marginally into most of these accounts. Similarly, the Greco-Turkish War of 1919-1922 and the “Great Fire” of İzmir, which concluded that conflict and brought an end to Hellenism in Asia Minor, remain largely disregarded episodes in the English-language historiography of the immediate post-World War I era. Credited with establishing a YMCA branch on the Gettysburg College campus in 1867, Robert Weidensall (1836 - 1922) was elected the first national field secretary of the International Committee of the YMCA in 1868, a position which he held until his retirement in 1918.

The collection is almost exclusively comprised of materials relating to Weidensall's work with the International YMCA, much of it authored by himself. No personal information other than his employment history with the association is included.
