Two Women From The Past, Barbara Goodwyn
Two Women From The Past, Barbara Goodwyn
Honors Theses
The Elizabethan period was undoubtedly one of the richest in the history of England. After a period of turmoil, Elizabeth's reign gave England a time of internal peace. Making the best of the opportunity, the English burst out in all directions: exploration,. drama, trade, poetry. The importance of women grew in this period along with everything else, with a natural development of freedom. Duke Frederick of Wuttemberg, visiting England in 1602, remarked that "the women have more liberty than perhaps in any other place." Twentieth century minds would disagree that the women had freedom, but in comparison to other countries …
Realism, Heroines, Flaubert, George Gouldin
Realism, Heroines, Flaubert, George Gouldin
Master's Theses
Since Flaubert has been called "le chef de l'ecole realiste", an attempt will be made in this thesis to show how he used realism in the treatment of heroines in his novels. The first chapter will be dedicated to realism itself, showing first how the movement began in France in the mid-nineteenth century before Flaubert and Balzac were considered realists, followed by a modern definition and characteristics, such as: truth, materialism, scientific approach, documentary method, tediousness, mediocrity, sympathy with ordinary life and sociological features.
The other four chapters will be dedicated to Flaubert' s main heroines. Each chapter will have …
An Introduction To The Victorian Woman : A Comparative Study Dealing With Poetical And Historical Sources, Lois Iffert Rudge
An Introduction To The Victorian Woman : A Comparative Study Dealing With Poetical And Historical Sources, Lois Iffert Rudge
Master's Theses
The purpose of studying the Victorian women in poetry has been to find some relation between the historical woman and the literary woman. Louise E. Rorabacher in a similar thesis considered only the novels of the day (Victorian Women in Life and Fiction, University of Illinois, 1942). Her purpose was to determine the validity of the concept of the woman in the novel in terms of historical fact. She concluded that the fictional woman was real, in a narrow, myopic sense, but that she did not reflect the social change. The picture of her social and conservative home life was …

The Changing Status Of Women In The Philippines, Soledad Oriel Soriano
The Changing Status Of Women In The Philippines, Soledad Oriel Soriano
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Among many peoples in the Far East, masuline domination has been flagrantly exhibited. Women have been, until lately, relegated to the background in social, economic, and political affairs. By their customs, traditions, and laws, most women have been held in utter subjection to the men.
That women in the Philippines are on an equal footing with the men socially, economically, and politically would seem incredible to people in the Wast who grow up with the conception that Oriental women lead secluded and downtrodden lives and are generally slaves to the man. In their opinion, the Philippines, being in the Far …

Highlights In The History Of The Female Diaconate, L. B. Buchheimer
Highlights In The History Of The Female Diaconate, L. B. Buchheimer
Concordia Theological Monthly
The early Apostolic Church set its seal of approval upon the ministering function of women, for in the records of the second century we find that women were solemnly ordained to a diaconate. While the appointment to the female diaconate excluded from the functions of public teaching and worship, it was considered co-equal with the male diaconate regarding the exercise of active charity.

A Study Of The Women Characters In The Long Plays Of Eugene Gladstone O'Neill, Katherine Schoendaller
A Study Of The Women Characters In The Long Plays Of Eugene Gladstone O'Neill, Katherine Schoendaller
Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice
In this thesis I have given summaries and characterizations of the women characters in Eugene Gladstone O' Neill's plays of more than one act in the order of their writing. At the close of the summarizations and characterizations of the individual plays I have attempted to classify the women characters according to their personality types and their moral traits. All the plays with the exception of six, Bread and Butter, Servitude, Second Engineer or The Personal Equation, Now I Ask You, Ancient Mariner, and S.S. Glencairn are included in this study. These six plays were not available to me. I …

Geneva Thorne : A Narrative Poem And A Picture Of Pioneer Life Revealing The Grave Foundations Of Culture In Kansas And The Slight Structure Built Thereupon, Olive Van Metre
Master's Theses or Doctor of Nursing Practice
This thesis is a narrative poem about frontier life in Kansas. This thesis is not submitted with the thought that it will add one jot to the known facts of Kansas history; but it is offered in the hope of stirring appreciation for a type of pioneer who helped to lay the corner stone of Kansas. This type has always, in the telling of old tales, been left unsung; the still and even tenor of their lives does not attract attention. Yet they were here. and the contributed the richest blood that Kansas boasts today. To the youngest generation of …
