Sarojini Naidu was a prominent poet and activist during the early twentieth century, yet few have ever heard her name. A child prodigy turned romantic poet, she shocked the world with her words and used her growing fame to advocate for Indian independence alongside famous nationalist Mahatma Gandhi. Her fluidity as a poet helped her captivate international audiences, and her charisma moved the masses to support her causes. "CAPABLE” is a full-length manuscript of poetry. The speaker of the manuscript interrogates her family’s past, specifically the past of her father. The speaker details how her grandmother abandoned her father as a young boy. This story of abandonment, and its aftermath, is expressed through portraits of the speaker’s family members. The most prevalent theme—freedom to choose one’s own path despite familial obligations—is seen through the grandmother’s leaving and the speaker’s own sexual experiences. Both the grandmother and speaker make decisions that alienate them from their families. Their experiences are juxtaposed in a way that presents the grandmother as a …

Especially underscoring the significance of public voice in a culture that often wants to conceal or minimize the lived lives of LGTBQIAP+ people. (Trans)form will be a collection of self-authored spoken word poems that are influenced by—and in dialogue with—powerful transgender spoken word authors. To what do we owe Black women? Everything. To be Black and female in America means that you are ignored, silenced, and sometimes erased. the very fabric of history would be quite different for all of us without the contributions, tears, blood, and love of Black women. As a result of the intersection of patriarchy and white supremacy, Black women are too often left exhausted, overworked, and left out of the historical narrative. This multi-modal creative work is a call to action to end the erasure of Black women with scholarship, visual art, and poetry.

In this article, I discuss Algernon Swinburne’s and Dora Greenwell’s engagement with the myth of Proserpine through an analysis of the motif of the garden, which takes central stage in both accounts. The examination will illustrate how the authors’ outlined images of the garden challenge the dominant representation of the motif within Western literary tradition, offering a re-interpretation of the myth as social commentary.

Karakalpak Folk Songs Are A Special Kind Of Folklore, Esimxan Kanaatov Doctorant

The article provides information on the history of the Karakalpak people in the period of the emergence of the Saka-Massaget and Turkic peoples, and for the first time the historical poems recorded among the Taulibay Karakalpaks were submitted for scientific discussion. There are also spoken about the genre, content, historical value and character of the historical songs of the Karakalpak people from the XIII century to the 20s of the XX century.

The article briefly discusses the classification of historical songs and comments on the role of tropes in increasing the effectiveness of historical songs.
