Old Woman, Erina Lynch Jan 2020

Old Woman, Erina Lynch

The Tuxedo Archives

She sits across from me in all her purpleness. Same table, same drinks on the table. Each and every day the same. Three drinks each day at 11:45A.M. – one venti caramel frappucino, one venti mocha with whip and one grande iced coffee. She isstrange. The drinks, ordered together, sit on the table slowly being sucked dry as the old woman holds court at her two-seater, window, table for hours. She is strange, arriving at the local McDonald’s version of a coffeehouse referred to as Starbucks on her purple beach cruiser bicycle that is seriously tricked out in some sort …

Old: A Personal Essayist’S Reflections Of An Aging Adult, Marcia Irene Taylor

Theses and Dissertations

This dissertation opens with a critical introduction that examines the role persona, reader, and implication play in the composition of the personal essay. Brown and Levinson’s Politeness Theory is then applied as a tool in an essayist’s exploration of how one’s communication choices impact life experiences. This section is followed by an explanation of the subject matter of the essays. The pedagogical chapter addresses the author’s experience with the student-centered teaching of a first creative writing class, lessons learned, theorists who affected the process, and suggestions for improvement as the author moves forward in postsecondary teaching. The dissertation concludes with …

Over the past two decades Australian archaeologists have been slowly uncovering the World Heritagelisted ancient theatre site at Paphos in Cyprus. The Hellenistic-Roman period theatre was used for performance for over six centuries from around 300 BC to the late fourth century AD. There is also considerable evidence of activity on the site after the theatre was destroyed, particularly during the Crusader era.

The Relationality Of The Holy One Of Israel In The Book Of Isaiah, Tony T.K. Chen Jan 2013

The Relationality Of The Holy One Of Israel In The Book Of Isaiah, Tony T.K. Chen

ATS Dissertations

This dissertation explores the ways that “the Holy One of Israel” is used in the book of Isaiah to depict Yahweh, the powerful and unapproachable God, in his personal relationship with Israel. It investigates the actions and character of Yahweh as the Holy One of Israel and the nature and purpose of Yahweh’s holiness as reflected in the Holy One of Israel’s treatment of Israel. It considers how Yahweh seeks to manifest his holiness in the midst of rebellion through righteous actions. In particular, it examines how the Holy One of Israel rebukes, redeems, and restores Israel, despite her rebellious …

Old Noise, New Sounds: Sonic Explorations In Gallery Spaces, Su Ballard

Su Ballard

Leon Narbey's electronic sound and light installation Real Time opened . New Plymouth's Govett-Brewster Art Gallery in February 1970. It was a noisy exhibition. Fluorescent and neon lights constructed flickering visual spaces, swathes of black polythene disguised all internal architecture, and recording microphones and movement triggers transferred sounds from one space to another. It was simultaneously disorientating and exhilarating. Real Time was a major installation in a minor location. Outside the centres of an already. peripheral country, Real Time raised the possibility of networked electronic installation transgressing the mainstreams of both "gallery art and media art." It did this by …

‘Class Warfare’ Or Not, Australia Has Moved On From Labor’S Old-Fashioned Rhetoric, Gregory Melleuish Jan 2012

‘Class Warfare’ Or Not, Australia Has Moved On From Labor’S Old-Fashioned Rhetoric, Gregory Melleuish

Faculty of Law, Humanities and the Arts - Papers (Archive)

“Class warfare” is an emotive term that would seem to belong to a bygone age when there also existed, as in the minds of many people, something called the “class struggle”.

It would seem strange that in age when blue-collar jobs seem to be always in decline that anyone should be referring to “class warfare”. The classes of an earlier age are no more. Australia is a different country to what it was in the 1930s and 1940s.
