The Courier

A Transylvanian immigrant at the beginning of the century, a painter turned writer in Paris in the late twenties, and an active force in the American expatriate movement there, Peter Neagoe (1881-1960) holds a special position in the history of letters. He was best known in the United States between 1930 and 1950 as a painter and writer, and also as the editor of an anthology of the writings of expatriates. However, because of the major theme of his novels and short stories, Neagoe belongs rather to Romanian literature. His main source of inspiration was the Transylvanian village at the …

The Courier

In 1971 Syracuse University Library made an agreement with the National Library of Australia, whereby the National Library microfilmed the complete manuscript collection of Nevil Shute Norway's papers in its possession and sent the microfilm to the Arents Library of Syracuse University. Syracuse makes this film available to responsible scholars with the understanding that users of the microfilm will cite the National Library of Australia as the repository owning the original manuscripts and will make all references to the numbering identification system prepared by the National Library.

"Throughout the Andes eight out of ten people are Indians. , They are the destiny of Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia--but also a national burden..." The problems presented by this group are of primary importance, not only because the Indians represent such a large percentage of the population but also because factors such as modern communications make the indigent aware of his own misery as well as of the vast well-being which other groups enjoy. As novelists of Peru and Ecuador turn to examine national problems, their works provide us with new, amplified insight. Although their interpretations may seem exaggerated, they …
