This thesis is a short story collection set primarily New Orleans and focuses on the subject of fathers and sons. It explores the effect that the absence of a father figure or the presence of an unsuitable father may have on boys and men. The stories are literary fiction.

Although Arabic literature has a rich heritage which exerted considerable influence upon the west, after the Middle Ages Arabic writers produced little in the way of prose fiction. When the printing press was introduced in Arabic-speaking countries in the nineteenth century, all that changed profoundly. Western novels like those of Scott, Dumas, Dickens and others were first translated into Arabic and then quickly imitated by writers like Zayin and Abu-Hadid. Although such novels were popular, their literary quality was often low. All of this changed in the middle of the twentieth century when authors like Al-Sibai, Idris and especially Mahfouz …

The issue of abortion touches deep emotions in individuals and continues to be a controversial topic in the United States. The Right to Life movement believes strongly that life begins at conception, and to abort an unborn fetus is an act of murder. The supporters of the Pro-Choice movement, however, believe that a woman has the right to choose what happens with her body, and this takes precedence over other considerations. Pyramid of the Sun is a novel which is experimental in structure. It weaves traditional prose with original poems based on Aztec creation myths. The narrative is not strictly linear, but approaches the plot from several angles - past, present, and future - simultaneously. It comes back to its starting point at the end, like a snake devouring its own tail. The novel takes the Aztec and Mayan belief that time is circular and never-ending and reinterprets it in a contemporary, hard-edged setting that touches down at various points across the globe, including Moscow, Seville, Seoul and Las Vegas. I am submitting two manuscripts for my creative dissertation, In What Array That They Were In and Participating Godlike Food. The former is a sequence of odes followed by a brief epic, followed by a cycle of verse dramas, with an ode epilogue. The latter is a book-length excerpt from an epic poem/crime novel/Menippean satire/television show/Dada collage/historical document/vatic investigation that comes in 20 page sections that are supposed to approximate the 42 minutes of an average crime show.

The Molloy Student Literary Magazine

The Molloy Student Literary Magazine, sponsored by Molloy College’s Office of Student Affairs, is devoted to publishing the best previously unpublished works of prose, poetry, drama, literary review, criticism, and other literary genres, that the Molloy student community has to offer. The journal welcomes submissions, for possible publication, from currently enrolled Molloy students at all levels. All submitted work will undergo a review process initiated by the Managing Editor prior to a decision being made regarding publication of said work. Given sufficient content, The Molloy Student Literary Magazine is published twice annually in Spring and Fall.
