This article describes the collaboration between faculty at two international
universities, one in France and one in the U.S., who partnered their students to practice and assess oral skills. Using computer-mediated communication with both synchronous and asynchronous elements, the collaboration provided a valuable opportunity for both groups to engage in pedagogically meaningful and structured exchanges integrated into coursework that mirror their future professional situations (O’Dowd et. al., 2020). This paper investigates the intersections of race, corporate professionalism, and somatic regulation within Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) translation and interpretation. While traditional translation scholarship prioritizes linguistic neutrality, this study employs an interdisciplinary critical methodology combining Critical Race Theory (CRT), Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), and Translation and Interpreting Studies (TIS) to deconstruct how standard professional aesthetics inadvertently sustain systemic racism and Eurocentric cultural erasure. This exploratory qualitative case study examines how undergraduate signed language interpreter education programs accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE) maintain programmatic distinctiveness while complying with shared accreditation standards. Drawing on document analysis and semi-structured interviews with program directors from all 19 CCIE-accredited programs in the United States, the study investigates institutional, curricular, and contextual variables that contribute to successful accreditation and program sustainability. The study analyzed publicly available documents alongside interview data to identify commonalities and variations across programs in areas such as curriculum design, faculty composition, admissions and progression requirements, field experience, and institutional support. Cognitive styles (Joughin, 1992) have been described as the means by which human beings prefer to learn. While cognitive styles and activities to support specific cognitive styles have been explored in various arenas of adult learning, they have yet to be applied to interpreter education. To explore this further, a pilot test was conducted to determine if the interpreting training activities designed for global and sequential learners aligned with their expressed preference for global or sequential learning tasks. The study aims to identify the types of figurative language used and to understand the meanings they convey, particularly in depicting female dominance in romantic relationships. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method using Jan Renkema’s (2020) stylistic theory as its theoretical framework. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method and applies liberal feminist theory to examine the feminist elements in the film and their relationship to the portrayal of women. The representation of liberal feminism in the film is analyzed through nine scenes. Edith Cutaran Lopez-Tiempo’s body of work, alongside her stature as Philippine National Artist for Literature, has generated substantial scholarship on the fertile imaginaries and intersections of formalist poetics, the institutionalization of the writing workshop, and Philippine poetry in English. Building on these contributions, I turn instead to Tiempo’s negotiation of self-fashioning, memory work, and imaginative practice as a way of articulating questions of scale in her oeuvre. The tradition and history of detective fiction in the Philippines remain a slim and largely untheorized terrain, and Edith Tiempo’s contribution to the genre with her fifth and last novel, The Builder (2003), has yet to receive critical attention. This paper takes the novel as its primary text and argues that the quasi-detective and the criminal, both indigenous subjects, produce a critical tension that is illegible to the generic framework of Western detective fiction.
