A Relational Approach To Workplace Leadership, Nathaniel J. Hunt
A Relational Approach To Workplace Leadership, Nathaniel J. Hunt
M.S. in Leadership
This research project examines relational leadership as an ethical and strategic foundation for fostering effective workplaces. Motivated by the growing importance of human connection in leadership, the study integrates philosophical insights, particularly Emmanuel Levinas’s ethics of the face of the Other, with empirical evidence on workplace relationship-building. A mixed-methods approach was used, combining a structured survey of 32 professionals with thematic analysis of qualitative responses. Results confirmed that strategies such as encouraging knowledge-sharing and cultivating positive relational climates significantly enhance employee well-being, psychological safety, and organizational performance. Knowledge-sharing emerged as the most effective strategy, while relationship-building was found to be …
Food Insecurity In Latin America: Climate Change, Industrial Agriculture, And The Case For Regenerative Solutions, Leila Hernandez-Webster
Food Insecurity In Latin America: Climate Change, Industrial Agriculture, And The Case For Regenerative Solutions, Leila Hernandez-Webster
CISLA Senior Integrative Projects
This study critically analyzes the nexus between climate change and food insecurity in Latin America, with a particular focus on Costa Rica’s agricultural sector. It interrogates how industrial agricultural practices, deforestation, and trade liberalization have contributed to environmental degradation and heightened socio-economic vulnerabilities, especially among smallholder farmers. Through the lens of political ecology, this research situates these dynamics within the broader context of neoliberal and neo-extractivist development paradigms, which have systematically eroded food sovereignty. This study also evaluates agro-ecological responses, particularly agroforestry, as viable strategies for promoting ecological resilience and socio-economic equity. In doing so, it underscores the imperative of …

The Pandemic Skip And The Power Of Nostalgia: Why Gen Z Is Drawn To Animated Kids Shows, Haley Bergen
The Pandemic Skip And The Power Of Nostalgia: Why Gen Z Is Drawn To Animated Kids Shows, Haley Bergen
English Student Publications
The early 2010s produced animated kids shows such as Gravity Falls, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and The Legend of Korra, which drew Generation Z because of elements like family, friendship, and self-introspection. This connection is strengthened by the Pandemic Skip Phenomenon: a time where young adult’s mental growth was stunted during COVID-19, leading to this generation looking for comfort in these nostalgic animated series’ to assist the transition into adulthood.

Jurgen Habermas's Views On Legal Validity And Discourse Ethics: A Literature Review, Rika Febriani, Supartiningsih Supartiningsih, Sindung Tjahyadi
Jurnal Civics: Media Kajian Kewarganegaraan
In modern states, law is often reduced to merely a tool of power. Many contemporary practices treat law as nothing more than a procedural requirement, disregarding its substantive values and the social conditions of society. This article discusses the validity of law within a political community from Habermas's perspective. According to him, the law must be discursive and stem from rational subjects capable of effective communication. The fundamental questions addressed are: how can law ideally be derived from norms within a political society? And how can law subsequently foster a democratic society? This article employs historical-factual methods, with primary sources …

Understanding Human-Ai Interactions: What 17,000 Conversations Reveal About Creativity And Chatgpt, Hannah Sussman
IPHS 484: Senior Seminar
This study uses topic modeling to analyze over 17,000 English-language conversations from the WILDCHAT-FULL dataset, a large-scale collection of human-ChatGPT interactions. By applying Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) across 17 time-based segments spanning one year, the research identifies major themes and temporal shifts in user engagement. Creative writing emerged as the dominant topic category, accounting for nearly 40% of all identified topics. Subcategories such as character development, fight scenes, and sexual content offer further insight into how users creatively engage with ChatGPT. By combining large-scale topic modeling with close qualitative review, this study demonstrates a scalable yet nuanced approach to analyzing …

Ai's Creative Boundaries: A Cross-Model Pattern Analysis Of Identity-Based Narratives, Maisie Jane Brigham
IPHS 300: AI for Humanity
This research project examines creative writing outputs from five leading large language models (Claude 3.7 Sonnet, ChatGPT 4o, Grok 3, Gemini 2.5 Flash, and Deepseek R1) as they generate and respond to prompts focused on diverse identity experiences. By analyzing stories centered on immigrant, Black, LGBTQ+, transgender, and Indigenous experiences, I identify recurring patterns, tropes, and limitations across different AI systems. This study illuminates how algorithmic storytelling currently relies on a limited repertoire of narrative elements, raising important questions about the representation of diverse human experiences in AI-generated creative content and the potential impacts of these patterns as AI writing …

Peak : An Ai Voice Coach For Emotion-Aware Performance Tracking In High-Stakes Fields, Ayman Wadud
IPHS 484: Senior Seminar
High-stakes performers, such as athletes, artists, and professionals, often lack tools that integrate objective performance metrics with subjective mental states. This disconnect can hinder effective training and optimization. PEAK addresses this gap by combining customizable performance analytics with real-time emotional insights via Hume's Empathic Voice Interface (EVI). Through natural voice interaction, PEAK correlates emotional expression with performance data, enabling personalized feedback and data-driven reflection. The platform empowers users to understand their emotion-performance dynamics and develop targeted strategies for sustainable peak performance.
Biolinkbert-Pr: A Large Language Model For Diagnosing Pediatric Rheumatological Disorders, Juliette Lowe
Biolinkbert-Pr: A Large Language Model For Diagnosing Pediatric Rheumatological Disorders, Juliette Lowe
IPHS 300: AI for Humanity
Pediatric rheumatology is an understudied and underprovided field in medicine. Currently, there are only 850 pediatric rheumatologists in the United States (1). This can make it incredibly difficult to get a diagnosis, since pediatric rheumatologic disorders are rare and thus easily missed. For example, eight states have no pediatric rheumatologists at all, and only 25% of children with arthritis are able to see a rheumatologist (2). AI applications in pediatric rheumatology are lacking, likely due to the combination of a lack of interest and a lack of data. This project utilizes a large language model (LLM) to create an AI …

The Spiritual Call Of Nursing: Supporting Patients In Spiritual Distress, Cheryl Green, Lauren Thayer, Eliza Dickerson Rn
Posters
Nursing has historically been associated with the spiritual. Referred to “anamcara,” a soul friend in Celtic writings (Groves & Klauser, 2005), nurses accompany those in need, and the ill, from birth to end-of-life. The purpose of this project was to increase awareness of nurses in the identification of patients’ Spiritual Distress, a NANDA diagnosis.

Can Belief Be Compelled? Evidence From Salem, Stewart Justman
Can Belief Be Compelled? Evidence From Salem, Stewart Justman
Global Humanities and Religions Faculty Publications
In his Letter Concerning Toleration Locke argues forcefully that belief cannot be compelled under any circumstances. I put this proposition to the test by examining false confessions extracted during the Salem witch-hunt only three years after Locke’s letter was translated into English. Evidence in the Salem records—in particular, a deposition signed by six accused witches—establishes that a number of confessors believed their own false narratives at the time they offered them. Of great psychological interest, these cases give us a sense of what the Salem hysteria felt like to those engulfed by it. They also invalidate Locke’s claim that belief …

From The League Of Nations To Pearl Harbor: Measuring Isolationism In The Interwar Period 1918-1939, David K. Bendlin
GLI MA in American History Student Works
The complicated and contradictory task of balancing the isolationist foreign policy backed by public-opinion and political pressures, while remaining influential and involvement in international affairs, is best exemplified in the early years of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency. In his first few months in office, Roosevelt positioned himself as an internationalist and moved to expand American influence overseas. In 1933, Roosevelt recognized the Soviet Union and pushed for arms embargos on aggressor nations. In 1934, Roosevelt passed the Reciprocal Trade Agreements Act to boost international trade. In 1935, Roosevelt pushed for the US to join the World Court to extend American …
Our National Reckoning: A Historiographical Approach To Emancipation And Lincoln, Jaie R. Pizzetti
Our National Reckoning: A Historiographical Approach To Emancipation And Lincoln, Jaie R. Pizzetti
GLI MA in American History Student Works
This historiographical paper examines scholarship on Abraham Lincoln and the Emancipation Proclamation in our national reckoning with the legacies of slavery and race in American History since 1865. This leads scholars to inevitably confront the question of Lincoln’s true motivation for pursuing emancipation as a war goal: to save the Union or to provide a “new birth of freedom?” Following the tumultuous period of Reconstruction, which gave rise to segregation in the South, many white historians focused little attention on slavery and emancipation in studies of the Civil War. Attention returned in the twentieth century, especially with the centennial of …

Theological Rituals Of Death: An Archaeological Case Study Of A Thirteenth Century Christian Burial Site, Makayla J. Bowman
Theological Rituals Of Death: An Archaeological Case Study Of A Thirteenth Century Christian Burial Site, Makayla J. Bowman
Research and Creativity Symposium
This study examines the theological principles reflected in the burial practices of El Corral de los Condes, a thirteenth-century cemetery associated with the Knights of Calatrava at Zorita de los Canes, Spain. Founded during the Crusades, the Knights combined monastic vows with military service, emphasizing poverty, chastity, and obedience. Archaeological evidence from El Corral de los Condes reveals burials devoid of grave goods, consistent with Christian ideals of renouncing earthly possessions at death, as exemplified in Athanasius’ Life of Antony. The orientation of burials along an East/West axis, with heads facing east, aligns with early Christian eschatology, symbolizing the …

Let's Talk About The Writers Guild Of America On Strike 2023, Rylee Perry
Student Zines
The Writer's Strike of 2023 was a very impactful event in Hollywood for people of the industry to stand together as one.
This event allowed the people of Hollywood to stand with the writers in the fight for fair compensation. It is not very common for screen writers to be valued for their work anymore than having it published and put into the works. The compensation and recognition is poor, leaving the writers at a disadvantage to continue the struggle of making ends meet in their everyday lives.
This zine was created for ENG 120, Writing in the Disciplines with …
